Hi,
this question has been made a thousand times before, but I seem to deduct no comprehensive results. Is it my brain cells?

Where does 1500 stand exactly? Are the sounds better than the 2100? or not?
Is it a step up or a step down?

Looking in data tables form www.psrtutorial.com, I can see that the 2100 has more cool, sweet etc sounds, and has double the ROM than the 1500.
On the other hand, someone here posted 2 mp3's a while ago, both the "irish dance" by Michel Voncken, played on a 3000 and a 2100 respectively. There surely is a noticeable sonic difference between those two, in favor of the 3000.
Harmonisers aside, the 1500 and the 2100 are about the same price, they have almost the same interface, etc. Sonically, is the 1500 closer to the 3000, or closer to the 2100?
If I had that mp3, played on the 1500, I could probably decide for myself.

I understand that most members of this forum use their gear to make money. So, they want the best gear their money can buy, to get the best "help" in their business and the 3000 fulfills this need for many.
What about the others, who just play at home, as a hobby? I don't recall anyone owning the 1500 and I have a feeling many prefer 2100 instead of 1500. Why?

Since the launch of both models is now way back, you probably have formed some form of opinion on these models.

Please, share your opinions with me.

Thank you for your time,
Theodore

The PSR2100 is better in almost all respects except for no Smart Media, slower USB, and no internet connection.

I think the mic input is teh best addon in the 2100, but the usb?SM card is teh best part of the 1500.
Sonically - they are similar, but the drums are better in the 1500, and I guess all the new styles will work in either.
There are definately some better sounds in the new stuff, but the difference is not drastic.

If you sing, or want to play aguitar along with this instrument - the 2100 will be a better choice for a home user.

Tony,
Yes I was referring to your mp3's. There is a noticeable difference in the sounds. Is the sonic difference between 2000 and 2100 that much?

Uncle Dave,
I don't play nother instrument, and I don't sing.(Less than once a year). I just want to play for my hobby and since i won;t trade instruments often, i want something that will stay current" for more.

Thanks everyone, I want to hear more of you!

I have both the 1500 and the 3000 in my store and have compared the 1500 to the 2100 before I sold my last 2100.
The 1500 has 96 notes of polyphony compared to 64 notes on the 2100.

If you like organs, the 1500 has a better virtual draw bar organ over the 2100. It has 9 drawbars compared to 8 on the 2100.

The sounds are almost identical on the two instruments. It was very hard for me to hear any difference.

The smart media card means you don't have to keep changing floppy disks so often because you can put a 128 or 256 MB card in the slot which can hold hundreds of songs and styles of your choosing.

If you buy a new 1500 you get a factory warranty and by now you probably can't find a new 2100 anywhere.

1500, (unlike other lower models of previous yamaha has)-same no of simu EFX like 3k.+ mod wheel.also most of 3k stuff except less sweet/cool voices,no mega voices and no VH.

2100 is a 3k with a disk drive(ofcourse less voice ROM,mega voices)but + dsp and VH buttons onboard.

2100's piano and some voices sound better(1500 ac piano is pretty lame) but 1500's USB and SM is also great for a mid priced arranger.

but as you mentioned -you don't want to upgrade for a while-so 1500 could be better for you.

mind you- 2100 is made in year 2003(not year 2001 like psr 2000).just a year ahead of 3k.so used ones are not that old.
