fran, a g1000 has come up for sale out here (australia) and i think the price is good (about $800 US) i know from postings on SZ that you own/owned one of these, and i was wondering if you had any demos of the styles available for posting? or any other thoughts you might have?
thanks

Hi Dennis,
did you notice there's a G800 as well. Currently just over $300 aud.
I had a G800 but not a G1000. Maybe one of the guys can comment on the 2.

The VA7 currently seems to be going for a reasonable price.
I sold mine for approx $1700, 3 years ago.
I saw one crop up last year for approx $1300.
Then a few months back, one sold for well under $1,000. I wanted to buy it but hubby said no. They use a scssi drive for storage(plus floppies)

The G1000 you mentioned, I think was up for auction a few weeks back, but it didn't sell. Not sure it's the same one, but they don't come up that often.

best wishes
Rikki

When buying a used G1000, I would DEFINITELY make sure that the ZIP disk works as advertised. Without this functioning well, the whole thing is severely compromised. You used to be able to get replacement ZIPs, and self-install, but with SCSI getting long in the tooth, I don't know how easy they are to find, any more....

And the G1000 is a VERY good step up from the G800, well worth waiting for one rather that jump on the G800 (I had one prior to my G1000). A significantly better piano, saxes, drums..... If you can wait for a G1000, go for it!

the demos that fran sent me sound really good, and i was very nearly tempted to buy the g1000, but then i heard that yamaha are to release a module version of the new motif XS, which is rumoured to also include the four arpeggiators...sooo i might just wait a bit longer to check it out..released here in late april i think, or early may....the demos of the motif xs synth with the 4 arps make it look and sound like its going to be an awesome bit of gear!!!

But..... it will NOT be an arranger, despite the 'intelligent chord recognition', etc..

If you need an arranger, firstly, there are several NEW, good ones for the money that the XS module is going to cost, and secondly, you have to go a long way to find a better keybed than the 76 note G1000.
