I am looking for a new keyboard. ( I dont have an arranger yet!!!) My main use will be onstage amateur solo performances of Indian movie tracks and for that I need good styles, gr8 recording features and of course nice voices. How does the PSR 1000 compare to PSR 740? Is it worth the extra bucks I'll have to shell out? And cud someone make it clear to me how polyphony will dampen my performance ( coz 1000 has only 32 ) . I know what it means but how do I decide whats enuf for me? I guess this is the only area where PSR1000 is inferior in specs to the 740 Or am I wrong??And one last thing. .. I saw the catalogues of PSR 550, 650 etc in the local musicstore. Is a 750 on its way? The guy in the shop told me so !!!

You saw a 650? As far as I can tell, the 1000="650" and the 2000="750" by the old numbering scheme.

The sounds of the 1000 and 740 are just about the same .
The 1000 offers better sequencing vs. the 740 IMO .
For live use ....I would think that the 740 would be better . The 740 has a keypad .
This allows you to punch in a number for sound and style changes .
The PSR1000 is more LCD display dependant .
I also like the grooves and dynamics feature on the 740 as well .
Last time I checked .....the PSR740's were being sold for around $650.00 US dollars . The PSR1000 is selling for around $900.00

BTW .......the PSR1000 replaced the PSR640
the PSR20000 replaced the PSR740

It all depends on how accurate u want the Indian movie tracks to be. If u are happy to use a similar sounding style, then the PSR 740 will do. If u want a replica ( and this is possible) then even the PSR 1000 will fall short. U will have to look at i-30, or a PA 80, PSR 9000, VA 7. I use the i-30 and am able to get exact sounding arrangements with its exellent tabla sounds.
The polyphony may pose a problem as well with extensive use of strings in the styles.
