Please Help!
My MR76 is not responding to Sysex requests. I have been working for two weeks now trying to solve the problems that I'm facing, but to no avail. Emu/Ensoniq have responded only by saying they can't offer any support; my local service provider has yet to return my (several) calls and my supplier has no idea. Emagic have not responded. Other music/computer specialists who have looked at the system suggest that there is some kind of major keyboard problem which needs attention.
I have been able to ascertain that I am using the latest Operating System for the MR76(ver2.1.1). I have found peculiar things happening inside the MR76 when Logic tries to command a particular sound from the keyboard (eg sound program changes from what was selected, or no sound occurs at all) and SoundDiver still can not get a Sysex acknowledgement.
The keyboard is definately sending/receiving MIDI and device ID's are set correctly and definately match. There is no evidence anywhere of Sysex communication and I'm pretty confident that's where the problem lies.
Given that there are command selections missing which should be available on the keyboard (as described in the manual), I would like to ask your opinions as to whether you think it is possible that my operating system may have somehow been corrupted. Further to this, is the O.S. software (DOS) or firmware(EPROM) and if you think I'm on the right track, how would I go about acquiring and replacing the O.S. that I'm currently using with something that works?
Do you know of anyone who is using the MR76 with Logic/SoundDiver? The MR76 is supposed to be supported by both programs, so surely I can't be the only person trying to use one with Emagic software.
If you have no idea how to address my enquiry, then would you be able to refer me to another users group.
Recently, I've integrated my Ensoniq keyboard into a computer studio environment using Pro Tools, Logic 5 and SoundDiver. While I've been able to have SoundDiver acknowledge my Roland JP8000 synth, it continually advises me that the MR76 is not responding to SysEx. SoundDiver claims it supports the MR76. Upon consultation with all manuals, I understand that communication channels can be switched and set by selecting System/System MIDI/Edit MIDI settings/SysExRecv = On.
(from MR Workstation manual pgs 61-62 "Enabling and disabling System Exclusive Communication). The problem is that my keyboard does not offer me this as an option. I have access to all other system adjustments defined in the manual, but not this one. I stongly suspect that it has something to do with my operating system - I currently use version 2.1.1, but I have no idea how to correct this problem. My service organisation tells me to "surf the internet and download an upgrade". Is it as simple as this? I know the Ensoniq reads all DOS formatted floppy disks, but there doesn't appear to be an option described in the manual to upgrade my Operating System. They only describe how you can leard the version of your OS (from MR Workstation manual pg364 "Updating the MR61 and MR76 Operating System).
Help advice from SoundDiver consistently identifies SysEx to be the problem.
