I just got home from a Mother/Son dance at my old High School, and Lemme tell ya - the EV's really did a heck of a job! I brought my 150watt Gallien Krueger bass amp, just to be safe, but the sound from the EV's was better than I expected. There were over 350 people there in a large gym, and the sound coverage was excellent. I had them on the floor at the front of the stage, sitting in their little angle brackets - facing UP, and at an angle towards the ceiling. This really worked out well. I played the first two sets live during pictures and dinner, and after that we had some dance contests, prizes, and I wound up DJing most of the remainder of the party. The kids deserved to hear some of their tune, after all. They were pretty tolerant - having a "newly turned 47" yr old as their MC ! It was MY old school too, what a kick seeing the place again, as an adult. My daughter goes there now, and another is about to start there next September. (Bah - dee - ah ..... do you remember ? ) Sorry - EW&F flashback. Anyone wondering about the power of the SX100a - wonder NO longer. They are very efficient. This was the largest crowd I've done with them so far, and I'm very pleased. If it was one of MY crowds (40 and older) the bass amp would not have been needed, but for all the kids' music - it really helped a lot. Dancers respond to bass - NOT volume. I was glad to have a little "extra" in the rumble department. the kids were TOO cool with their Mom's. At first, it was tough to get them out of their seats, but after a bit - they did everything I told them to. I had them running a Conga line and all. (try THAT with a bunch of 16 yr olds and their Moms!) At the end I had them all form a huge circle as we sang "United We Stand" to each other, and gradually closed the circle so that by the end of the tune - we had a HUGE "gang hug" going. It was really nice. The Mom's loved it, and the boys put up with it. I closed with that, and many left the building with red eyes! (Including ME !) When I was 16, I don't think I could have danced with my Mom - I was too awkward. These kids were so "at ease". They even danced in groups of 5-10 boys! I never saw that before. Girls always do it, but I never expected to see groups of guys dancing together. (fast, of course!) All in all - a banner night. It helped to rekindle my faith in the courage and confidence of today's youth. There was a lot of love in the room .... and NO smoke ... and NO alcohol! I was diggin THAT !
The point is - The EV's are a contender, folks. They are for real, and they are easy to carry too. This could be the most efficient system I've ever owned. PSR2000, voice prism, stereo mixer, 2 EV sx100a - lap top with MP3's,WMA's, and SMF's on board. I was invincible tonight !
