Trying to decide. Pa60 or psr2000. I am leaning toward the the pa60.

Also, are there plenty of styles available for the Korg pa60?

Thanks.

Tiger: Is the keyboard going to be used primarily for 'live' performance (one man band type?) or studio work (recording)? What type (style) of music are you wanting to produce? Answering these questions will better help us steer you to the one that will best suit YOUR needs.

Mostly live work with some home studio use.

Style of music - jazz, ballads, new age and a little classical (fake book stuff)

Thanks.

RJ,
I just sold my PA 80 and have a Tyros on order with George.
I will tell you this....Do not count on any styles for the 60, except for converted ones from other boards, that do not sound as well after the conversion. In over a year Korg has come up with 16 styles that were mediocre. I battled with them over that entire time about making more styles available and or the needed codes for others to produce software (which they would not nor seemingly have any intention of doing) (even though there were volunteers to do all the programming for free) to create styles or for them to come up with software for creating styles that was actually usable. I finally gave up fighting with them and sold the board.

I am going back to Yamaha,(had a 9000 and a Motif) while their support may not be perfect, it is better than Korg's IMO and there is far far more available for the PSR boards.

I think the Yamaha boards have mellower bread and butter sounds while the Korg has harder more dancie sounds.

I completely agree with Terry. I own a pa80 and a Yamaha PSR2000. I hardly ever play the pa80 any more. And for your type of music, I think the Yamaha is a better choice.

I concur with Terry here. Based on the type of music you play (jazz, ballads, new age, and classical) and that you'll be using it for live performing, the PSR2000 sounds like a better match. The PSR2000 imho is more 'user friendly' and easier to navigate & play (on the fly).

Scott is correct the 2K is easier to use live, also has more fills 4 (?) as opposed to 2 on the 60....Korg did not do a very good job at all on the fills, or the multi pads. Many of the things that need to be done have to be dug for in global too and many of the parameters are not savable and return to default at shutdown.

The voice of dissent here.. lol. I played both in live situations and once I got to know the OS of the PA80 ( identical to the 60 ), I found it to be easier to navigate in real time than the PSR2000. Yes the 2000 is simpler to learn. It has less going on in there. The 2000 also has the flimsiest key feel of any board I've ever tried.

Not bashing the 2000 here, although mine came chock full of OS bugs ( not the norm from what other players have said here ). I got frustrated and gave up on it after a two month fiasco that saw my board away in a shop with no solution in sight, but the bottom line was that I got reacquainted with my PA80 and found it to be the better board ( for me ) to play live with, or else I'd have toughed it out and waited for a new 2000.

Best bet is to try them both out yourself, undertanding that the 2000 is without a doubt easier to play "out of the box". To get the most from the PA80, I had to spend a good bit of time setting it up so that it is user friendly " on the fly ". The good news was that it has the flexibility so that I could set it up pretty much as I want, including replacing internal styles that I'll never use.

For the type of music you want to play, either will work fine Tiger. The PA60 does only have 2 fills per style ( my chief complaint with the PA series ), but I think overall, Korg still has the better sounding ( more realistic ) styles. Maybe that will change with Tyros.. we'll see. Ironically, this is almost a strike against the PA80 or 60 for me during live play, because the styles are so full that I find myself turning parts off so that I can add something meaningful with my own play.

One other board that you might want to have a go with ( if you can find one ) and is more or less in a competitive price range ( maybe a bit more than the PA60 or 2000 ) is the Ketron XD9. Although demos don't always give an accurate rendition of what a board can do, based on the demos I have already heard and what some of the other players here have described if we want to talk about great sounds and realistic styles, the XD9 seems to be more than worthy.
