Guys-

I have a large outdoor concert coming up at the end of the month...I'm thinking about adding a subwoofer to my PA system for added oomph...

If I rent one, how would I connect it to my existing system?

(FYI-I'll be daisy chaining our stage monitors from the mains on each side of our stage...)

Thanks-

Bill in Dayton

Frank-

Here's my gear list...

I use the following:

Tyros
Behringer PMH 200 power mixer
Digitech Vocalist VR
Shure Beta 57A or Shure SM58 mic
2-15" EV Force 1 2-way cabinets

*************************************

Tony-

Well, I've never rented one before..I'll wager a guess of between $25 and $40 bucks for the night...

On your mixer there should be a line out , possibly a master out that is not amplified.

You are going to take that and feed it to the sub amp. You could get a powered sub, like a JBL or Mackie and it will have the crossover and everything ready for you.

IF not you will need a amp with a crossover and a sub.

Most rentals places will have everykind of set-up

Bill, if you rent an active subwoofer (power amp built in and crossover), you only need to provide and output from your console, CR, Aux from each keyboard out, even perhaps voice too, that way, you donīt have to get a crossover, amp, etc.
I use also an active subwoofer all the time and sounds GREAT !. There are some like Mackie, HRS150 Active Subwoofer, Mackie SWA1501 , Yamaha MSR800W, the new Roland KCW1 Powered Subwoofer (200 Watts), here there are different models, power so, depending on your needs, ANY will work beautiful, hope it helps.

Bill,
Are you already using the MON(itor) output?
If not, I would use that output because it is possible to use the sub for the channels you like. E.g. the vocals do not need sublow...and will only raise the chance to get feedback if you would.

In my setup only the Tyros sends to the sublow-speaker through the AUX1 output of the Mackie 1402VLZ.

Hi Bill

I use the sub only from the Logitech z5500 with powered JBL Eon G210's.

All I do to hook up the sub is to plug it into the headphone jack on my Tyros. The JBL's either go straight from the Tyros or sometimes I use an UB802 Behringer stereo mixer for some more headroom.

The z5500 sub weighs only 34 pounds and measures about 13 inches square. It is 188 watts RMS. It has a 10" speaker and this sub kicks out sound like you wouldn't believe. I don't use the satellite speakers at all.

The z5500 system runs about $350.

Scott, (and any others using only the sub from the logitech system)

I damaged a yamaha stereo powered mixer by not having speakers plugged into it and just using it as a mixer. I was told by a service tech that it is a big no-no to do run a powered unit without a load, the impedence of the speakers need to be there.
I seriously hope you are not possibly risking damage to your logitech powered sub by not using the satelites (which also recieve power from the sub)
Any other thought on this by any of you more knowledgable than I am would be much appreciated.
