I have just recorded another Beatles song: the beautiful Michelle. This song is dedicated to all the Beatles lovers on this Forum and in particular to Tom Cavanaugh, because he gave me a lot of good advice when I posted "And I love her". Tom, I hope you'll like this one too.
I have to say that after recording this song, with his melancholic atmosphere, I need something "strong" for a change... Eric, I think it's Santana time again!

I loved it. I liked your choice a lead sounds. The musette or French accordian, whatever you call it, sounds great. My wife and I actually named our oldest child Michele. We liked the name and partly because I'm such a Beatles fan. I've never tried to do that song because I can't sing it. You have inspired me to do it as an instrumental. I'm going to give it another try. My X1 has a number of really good sounding accordian type instruments. I think I might start it out with the really cool sounding "night sax" voice. Thanks!

Dreamer .... haven't heard your song yet, but am looking forward to it ..... I bought a CD (no 'name' players, probably just REAL good studio musicians) of Beatle tunes played on guitar, and since then have done a number of their ballads etc. in a bossa style, using jazz guitar, pan flute, soft sax, etc. voices ..... works real well for background at cocktail parties, etc. ... the use of the French accordion sound might be interesting .... (I was raised on accordion and love the variety of sounds, from musette, to jazz accordion) ... I think the various ways an artist's music can be presented says a LOT about the artist and the music ... the Beatles were a special group!!! ....

Tom,
thank you so much; after recording the Santana tune I listened again to Michelle and didn't like much the Soprano Sax track, so I redid it with a Synth Voice layer that seems better to me. Would like to hear your opinion too.
Warmest regards,
Andrea

Hi Andrea:
I like Michelle a lot; one of the best you've recorded. Perfect chords, good choice of instruments, good tempo. Just needs a little more variation in the percussion end (So we can keep Ringo happy). But don't go and record the song over again on my account; it's not a problem with the song, it's just me.
Ciao,
Mario

Mario,
you are right; the problem is that this was the best style I could find to record the song. It's an old Roland style from a Beatles collection and it's called "Michelle", just like I used the "And I love her" style to play the same song. The original style was even simpler and I had to add the guitar from another style and the drums from a Big Band style (thanks to the morphing function) but using just the most "Basic" part of the style, because in the "Advanced" section there were snare, cymbals and so on (too many things...)
I guess that for that song a brush swing style would have been perfect; maybe my forthcoming SD1 will allow me more choice.
So, the basic problem is always the same: for us arranger players a good songs starts from a good style.
Anyway, I appreciate a lot your suggestion.
It's a pleasure to record songs for people like you.
More to come...
Andrea
