Guys-

This is a pretty individual sort of thing, but it seems to me that most of the polka styles I have aren't getting it done for me. There seems to be a disco flavor almost to them all which isn't what I'm looking for.

I'm am looking for a more traditional polka style...

Any suggestions?

Thanks-

Another sugestion is perhaps trying to go back to the polka styles you already have and mute some tracks. Sometimes this procedure changes the styles' flavor quite a bit. Who knows you can erase the disco flavor?

Disco polka is a mental image I would just as soon erase.

I know what you mean, Bill. For years I have tried to find a straight ahead, hard beating Polka style like I hear in Detroit and Toledo. I'd even settle for Chicago style, but to no avail. Everything sounds to smooth and (pardon the expression) European. If you find anything that can translate to my PSR2000, let me know.

Hi,
I also missed Polka Styles with offbeat snare. I tried paso doble and blue grass and with muting percussion and phrase tracks it sounds much better.
The best way is, to modify the internal polka styles and to copy the blue grass drum tracks to the Disco-Polka Style.

LOL, I thought you guys were going to call me nuts when I used "Disco-Polka" to describe it.

When we do polkas in my band, my drummer plays sort of a busy/heavy snare drum through most of it. The closest thing his snare style reminds me of is my high school marching bands "street beat".

A "Street beat" was what played as the band marched onto the field. A very percussive, cool, somewhat funk type snare pattern which was awesome...

Glad I'm not alone, lol...

Bill,

You've got mail.

The best polka style I found came with the PSR-2000--the BandMarch style using the third intro and fourth variation--it's great. If you don't have this style, I'll be more than happy to email it to anyone that needs it.

Enjoy,

Gary

I agree. This is the one I use. I searched through a lot of polka styles and the Band March style always gets the crowd up and dancing. I play it at a tempo of 120. I use variation 2,3 and the 4th for the trio. Don't accidently hit the first variation during a gig.
