I have Mpeg Suite as well. Great program for the price ( freeware..lol ). I now use WinLama though for Wav to MP3 conversions. I found that I got a little cleaner sound using WinLama for converting to MP3 on my particular system. There is a freeware 4 track digital ( wav file ) recording software program called DD Clip available at the DD Clip website. here is the URL:
http://www.softlab-nsk.com/ddclipro/free.html It has worked fine for me. I also have the Quartz Audio and Midi freeware program, but I'm not sure whether it's still available as freeware anymore. Even the Soundo LE program that comes bundles with the Soundblaster cards will do a good job for recording single stereo tracks.
I also use Cool Edit for wav file processing. It has been an excellent program for me.
I currently use N Track studio for multitrack and single stereo track recording, because it allows for 24 bit / 96 k support, and it syncs perfectly with any of my sequencers. It's a breeze to use as well, and has pretty good editing features in it's own right. If I remember right the program cost about $ 60.00 plus another 20 or so for the add on to allow 24 / 96 capability. It's a very good program if you wanted to do multitrack ( or even single track ) recording, and it includes midi. It also has a Wav to MP3 conversion feature built in. I don't care much for its' sequencer though, and prefer to use XG works or Cakewalk instead for midi editing. N Track also allows you to add vst and direct x plug in effect modules. I use multitracking software because I like to record the different instruments separately from my keyboards and samplers so that I can apply individual effects and EQ settings to them once I rendered them to Audio tracks. Still, I can sometimes mix down a song almost as well using midi controls and the onboard effects of the PA80 and then record all of it to a single stereo track via the input of my soundcard and one of my Wav recording programs.
I also sometimes like to send the audio output ( sounds ) from my softsamplers or soundfonts from the computer out to the PA80 via my Sound blaster Live card for effect processing in real time with no latency issues ( although now with the ASIO drivers I have on my Midiman card latency is no longer a problem ). I then return the sounds from the PA80 into my Midiman Audiophile card. There are so many other cool things that can be done using a computer for your hard disc recording these days.
