Hello

I am still thinking about getting a Tyros. Had a chance to try one again for the third time. AWESOME. And I thought you couldn't beat my PSR2000.

Anyway, I know for a fact I do not want the speaker set-up for the Tyros. For my purposes I think they are impractical, and IMO I don't really like the sound. Especially after using my JBL EON10 G2's. And I would hope the JBL's would sound better at around $1000, so maybe not the fairest comparison. I'm sure for home use and for monitors for someone who sings these Tyros speakers could be very handy.

I think I can get by using my JBL's as main and/or monitor, but if I did want speakers on my Tyros, I think just two small speakers on top would do it. I know I would not want to travel with that big speaker on the floor which you apparently need to make the small ones work.

So, my question is: Is there any decent speakers, a set of two small ones that is, that could work for this? If I did this I would want to mount them like the regular Tyros speakers. I even wondered if a decent pair of computer speakers could do the job.

Any input, as always is greatly appreciated.

Scott,
In my searching to come up with a better mid tones range sound, I tried several different things before settling for the Altec Lansing 621's with subwoofer.

My setup was a bit different in that I did not want to come out of the mains, reserving those for my recorder, so I was looking for something to supplement through the speaker outs. That really limits the choices due to the way Yamaha wired the setup (which does suck IMO).

However the best set up and sound comes from using the main outs. Why they didn't just tap into those for the speaker outs I can't figure out.

If you do use the main outs though it opens up the opportunity to use pretty much any speaker set up. The ones I heard that I thought gave a great all around sound was a small set of JBL's (powered monitors). Not small like the onboard satellites, but reasonable in size to use. They were about $500. for the pair. I tried amongest others Yammy small studio monitors for about $150. and at any real volume, they distorted big time. So whatever you try give them a volume test.

Hi Terry,

Just to let you know that I took receipt of the Altec Lansing 621's, and had to return them because they were deffective (left channel dead).

The Edirol MA-10A's actually work better for my specific purpose (live performance monitoring only), because they don't require that a sub woofer (Tyros subwoofer or any other) be connected to the Tyros.
