are those four pads inthe middle of the PA 800 the equivalent of "multipads" on the Yamaha arrangers? ie, some have factory sounds/perc loops/etc, and some can be user created?
if so, I'm wondering how easy it is to create loops for them (that's one thing Yamaha has done well, imho)

this is a feature on the Korg PA800 that I like alot. There is a huge library of loops already preprogrammed and yes you can make your own easily as well.

There are various sets of the pads that automatically load with performances and styles. You can elect to lock the pads and have them remain the same. You can create your own.

While we are on the subject of the PA800, does anyone know how to make lyrics appear with style? I know you are supposed to load the text file with the same name of the Song in the Songbook, but I don't see a way to do this. Maybe you have to have a hard drive installed?

I heard the demos. Nice styles..enjoyed the guitar unplugged and country style. Sounds are well done. If i had to compare based on sounds and styles id give the PA800 8/10 and Tyros2 9/10. But the korg is cheaper and has a better vocal harmony. Both are lightweight. I only dislike the useless touch screen of the pa1x... If Korg have sorted out the touch screen on this model then its a tough choice.. Buy both then do the korg multipads make use of rx technology like how the tyros 2 multipads now use megavoices in some of them.

I agree with your assessment Rolanfan on the sounds, but when you throw in the fact that the PA series both pax and pa800 have fully featured sequencers, fully featured samplers and deeply editable sounds all onboard the keyboard plus the ability to import 3rd party sounds samples from a wide range of formats etc it makes the decision a lot easier for individuals who use the instruments for playing live as well as studio as well as song writing and production. Alsmost all of the Pa800 capability will be brought out in the new OS for the Pax

Can't update that polyphony, or the sounds (USB or HD sample loading is still glacial, not practical for a live show), or the outdated engine (newer ones tend to be faster, less latency) though, so I would tend to say, either a PA800, or wait until they bring out a new model PA1XPro using PA800 engine.

The color touch screen, if as good as the Rolands, is easier to use than the PA1X's, and in truth, the PA1XPro is just getting a little long in the tooth. Korg have all kinds of exciting goodies in their new workstations, you are going to kick yourself if they bring out a new 76-er with some of that technology.

I agree with ur points. I think Yamaha needs to reduce the price of the T2 a little. And yes the g70 touch screen is far superior to korg pa1x. Its gonna be interesting to see what Korgs Pa1x replacement will be like.
