Is anyone else having problems with the DIRECT and EXIT buttons on the LCD screen as well as some other buttons on the Tyros becoming more and more non-reactive?

I have to press these buttons harder and harder now to get them to respond. This concerns me since I'm pressing these buttons on a very delicate LCD display.

Anyone else experience this?

This is happening to my i30 but it is 3 years old and I play it almost every day with a few days off here and there.

They want them to break so you'll keep buying new ones. It's great for the stores the manufactures and the economy but it sucks for the consumer. Go figure!

There's many complaints about the Fostex MR8 digital recorder in this respect also.

In the middle of one of our road gigs this past summer, the assign button for my combination patch busted, and dropped down inside. Fortunately, I was able (when I needed to) to turn the unit off and back on, and the kb defaults to combination mode so I was still able to scroll through the patches in combo mode to find what I needed, but it did delay me a bit while having to do this. It's in for repairs right as we speak.
btw...pressing harder will eventually give you grief. Contact cleaner worked for me. Made a big difference, but that's just my unit. Might not be feasible for you.
Just my thots...

Shboom,
Al is writing about the touch-screen 'buttons'.... no ordinary buttons.

I guess at the end a display(screen) replacement will be needed ??

Several times I played the PA1Xpro, but can't get used to the touch-screen. e.g. it is weird key-activation starts after 'releasing' the button.
Often wrong functions start, because of the tiny squares available for the buttons.

Do NEVER use contact cleaner in touch-screens !!

This has happened to me with two PSR2000s and two PSR2100s that I owned. Maybe I pressed the buttons harder than some other people, or I am unlucky. In any case, get this fixed because any day now, the buttons won't work at all.

The first time, I brought the keyboard to an authorized service center. It was far away, I was without my keyboard for over a week, and I had to pay $25 extra for a rush fee.

I recommend you should do something akin to what I did: I know a high school aged young man who is brilliant with electronics. He bought the highest quality contact switches and soldered them on. I never had the problem again with that button. He charged me $10 an hour, and for $20 I got my keyboard fixed in days.

It is a rudimentary problem to fix for someone who works fixing electronics. You might want to reconsider the authorized service center - especially if the keyboard is out of warranty.

Ooooops!!
Dopey meeeeee...
Yes..Obviously...no contact cleaner on a touch screen. Personally I can't handle the touch screens...fingers are too big.

UD,
You are right, it obviously is no touch-screen ..... ha !

Anyway, I never use contact-cleaner in micro-switches or carbon-switches.
The best thing you can do is replacing the switches or full motherboard.

Boys, boys, boys....Now I know we are senior members, but let's not get senior moments.

The Tyros screen is NOT touch screen nor am I referring to any touch screen thingies.

On the Tyros LCD there are a total of 14 tactile buttons -- not virtual buttons. (please take a look at a picture of the Tyros) These buttons are slowly becoming more and more un-responsive to touch.

I have already had the Tyros in for repair to replace the Direct Access button which was not working. This was performed under warranty.

So, Has anyone actually tried spraying these keys with contact cleaner?

Al
