I have a sustain button on the PSR550, and find it necessary to have it on when playing the acoustic piano. How do you turn on this feature on the PSR1500/PSR3000?
I will probably be demoing this plus the EXR-7 tomorrow.

Use a foot pedal.

Gary,
Are you saying there is no sustain button on the PSR3000? The sustain button will lengthen the decay of notes on the 550 (this is in addition to a sustain pedal). Without this button turned on (and with no sustain pedal) the decay is too quick on Yammies IMO. Come on back.

Try pressing the Voice Effect button and turning the Sustain on.

Thanks Steve. Will be demoing the PSR1500/PSR3000 and EXR-7 tomorrow. Long & Mcquade in Toronto have them all available. Cool.
I shoulln't pre judge, but I would be very surprised if the PSR1500 doesn't blow away the EXR-7

Steve,
Why doesn't that work wih ALL sounds? It seems like Yamaha has decided FOR US that we don;t need to sustain things like strings and sax....... to name a few.

UD,

I believe your talking about another issue. This feature does work on all voices.

What you're referring to is the fact that non-percussive Panel Voices don't sustain indefinitely when you hold the pedal down. I don't know why the decision was made to use this method. If you need a voice to sustain in this fashion, use one of the XG voices.

Steve

Thanx Steve - that's what I've been doing to get around it thus far. Seems odd to me.

When I tried the PSR1500 and PSR3000, the sustain was fine and I didn't have to turn the sustain on. Looks like Yamaha fixed this so it is fine, right out of the box. The pianos on both were excellent. They are both very nice keyboards. Arrr! I want one.
Steve, Thanks for answering my query anyway, I had your notes in my pocket, just in case I needed it.

So, Starkeeper: you gonna give us your impressions of the PSR1500/3000 versus the EXR-7? (probably should start a new thread for that!)

Bill,
This is my quick evaluation of those 3 keyboards. http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/008936.html.
I was so put off by the harshness of the EXR-7 that I did not give it a full test. It is apparently the amplifier/speakers, not the sound engine that is the problem. So I will have to demo it again with headphones. This is extemely poor quality control on Roland's part. How could they do such a stupid thing? This means that it is inferior, right out of the box. This will also reduce its' resale value.
