Hi

If your looking to increase the volatile ram from the standard 8mb you need to open the keyboard. remove the hard disk and directly underneath you will see 2 x sets of simms chips 30 pin going horizontal. These can be removed and replaced with up to 32mb if you can get hold of them as they are less common (72pin seems to be all thats available).

The keyboard will recognise the chips when installed.

Of course, if you install those, you will not be able to install the vocal harmonizer. For me, the 8megs of battery backed-dram is a must upgrade. It must not be optional.

Th volatile sample ram and battery backed are two different things. This will not effect your vocaliser.

Hold on. the 8 megs battery backed ram is different from all of these things...

The point is that the volatile memory banks are the SAME banks in which you add special chips for the vocalizer. So basicallly, if you add one, you cannot have the other.

How do I know? I installed the vocalizer myself.

But wk8 already has the vocalizer installed from factory... that explains why the user could not find the slots for the volatile memory... THis is so because they are already occupied by the two chips (vocalizer chips that come with the board.)

thank you guys for your help
The only place I found was the place where the company installed the 8 MG sample ram underneath the hard drive. Then I replaced the 8 Mg with my new 32 Mg(2 SIMMs 16 mg ) and when I turned it on I was big squeaky pitch sound , but the samples were still there and the sound was distorted . Do you think that the SIMMs I brought is damaged, or the place is not the right place?

That does not make sense at all. The 8meg backed memory is not simms but a CARD. So the place for a medium sized card absolutely cannot be for the simms. As I remember it, under the 8 megs, and under the harddrive, there is place for two simms. Since WK8 has already a vocalizer, i would assume that these simms holders are occupied with speciality chips... I can be wrong of course.

You need to alter the jumper pins

These aresituated to the left of the simms and should have on the board J1 and J2 the pin configuration looks like this
a .
b . J1
c .

a .
b . J2
c .

There should be a small plastic cap that slots over theses on each jumper selecter. You must ensure that they are different to those its on at the moment.

the jumper on J1 will either be placed over a pin and b this needs to be changed around so its over b and c . This is the same for J2. Make sure they are the opposite to what they are now.

If you still get the squeak it may be a dry solder joint on the under side of the board for the simms slots.

E mail me if you have any problems and i will send a service diagram. I am very knowledgable on this range as i worked in the Uk as sales manager for 8 years for generalmusic

Cool, a GeneralMusic aficionado! So do you have a Genesys yet?
