Hello

I came across this and see they have over 7000 styles on CD ROM for all brands. I think it was $120 plus shipping for the PSR2000.

Has anyone tried these? Are there any decent styles on the CD? I tried the sample styles and the ones they picked were no where's close to as good as the styles on my 2000. What are these styles from, any clue?

I wonder if it's worth getting. Personally I have my doubts right now but I'd love to
know more.

Scott, while I have not purchased them myself in speaking to someone who has and listening to some of them, I too was less than totally thrilled with the quality and variety of these styles. Most of them of course are converted which never seem to reach the same pinnacle that the originals do on the board for which they were intended.

Actually, I have purchased the CD about two years ago, and most of the styles are great. It depends on what you're looking for, and while most, if not all of the styles are converted, they are converted to the keyboard model you requested. As a performer, you need variety, and while most keyboards offer lots of styles, the diversity is such that you'll likely never use all the styles the board's offer--especially the hip-hop, rap, dance, disco, and other unique styles that were short lived. For my performances, I've always looking for new Big Band, Swing, Jazz, 6/8, Country, and Waltz styles to provide the variety needed to perform a four-hour job and not be repetitive. This is what audiences are also looking for. When you have a dance-floor filled with people that all got up there because you just did a great rendition of Unchained Melody, it's nice to be able to switch to something along the same lines that will keep them on the floor.

If you're looking for lots of great styles, USB online has them. Also, you can download some samples to try them in your keyboard first. If I recall, you can also download a list of styles to see if that's what you're looking for.

Good Luck,

Gary

You only have to download the USB sample styles to realise just how poor they are. They are basic converted styles on the CD so be prepared for a lot of tweaking if you want them to the same standard as your built in styles. The ones I tried from the CD, all ACC parts were set at 100 volume. All PANS were 64 (central) There is very little Effects and no DSP, so they sound very flat.
You could say I would not recommend them. You get better styles FREE from http://devoted.to/PSR2K

Graham is absolute right about the file settings--they are all the same and there are no frills. Essentially, they all have to be tuned to fit your specific needs. After tuning however, some sound pretty darned good. Others, well, they just didn't make the grade--but that has always been the case with styles. Some are good, some are fantastic and some are not worth a nickel. The best styles I've purchased over the years have been directly from Yamaha at yamahamusicsoft.com . Their files have been superb but they ain't cheap.

Cheers,

Gary

I've tried quite a few of them and they are conversions from other keyboards using EMC styleworks. Consequently they suffer from poor balance of voice levels, choice of instruments (usually none of the finer panel voices). On the other hand if you need variety then obviously you get quite a lot of them to play with, but as almost all these conversions are available free of charge from the various style groups I think its a bit immoral to charge such a price for them. Still, they do sell and quite a few customers have enjoyed them.

I think USB did a good job.. They converted all the main manufacturers styles to play on your specific instrument,,they did not pick and choose, that is up to you..Some styles just plain stink even on the original source...As for charging, it is earned, It takes a lot of time and effort to convert such a volume... BTW, where do you think the "free" on line styles come from? They should be free since most are other peoples work..
