It could be a chorus but I'll call it a bridge. Suffice to say, any significant "change" in the chord progression of the song.
One that always jumped out at me is Buddy Holly's song, "True Love Ways." I don't know enough theory to describe what happens but all I know is when it hits that bridge...

With those who really care
...that, to me, is about as good as it gets. If I'm playing it A-C#m-D-E7, it goes to F at the bridge.
The Beatles also have some unusual progressions that are really cool.
