I'm looking to add a 3rd keyboard to my collection. I need a really good practice keyboard to keep setup all the time. I have a Korg Triton Pro (76 keys) and a Tyros which I use for gigging. Those keyboards stay in their cases between gigs cause' I don't want to set them up and break them down all the time.

I was contemplating purchasing a new Yamaha Motif ES 88 key which would also serve as a backup keyboard for either the Korg or the Triton in case they develop problems, but for the most part I would not want to carry around a 65 lb keyboard. However, the Motif with it's graded hammer action and Triple strike 3 layer piano is very attractive.

However, I wonder if 76 keys would be better off.

What to do? Any suggestions?

Al

buy it at a store with a 30-45 day return....try it out, then either keep it or return it!

Al,

You want a Promega 2, you will not be sorry. If all you want is the best Pianos and Electric Pianos out there. Anyone that spends more than 5 mins with the Promega series will agree. I spend more time on my Promega 3 than I do with my grand.

Donny,

That's a great idea! I always feel guilty about doing something like that. I'm afraid I'll get too busy and not return the item within the grace period.

I bought kybd from GC and returned it 5 times and finally did not buy anything. Feel sorry for them. But I found a used PSR2000 for $550 and I just could not pass it up.

You have to decide on the 88 weighted or the non-weighted 76 based on your needs/preferences. But either way, you need to wait for the ES to come out before you decide. I guarantee, if you don't wait, you'll be trading it in when the ES comes out.

After hanging out on the Motifator Forum for a few days and posing the same question, my fellow musicians reminded me of the pain we all endure and that it's all about the music.

They have successfully persuaded me to wait for the Motif ES 88. I have played the P250 and if the Motif has the same Grand Piano sounds, It's a no-brainer.

Thanks Everyone.

If you decide to go the 76-key route, I would suggest the Roland VR-760; pianos, organs, orchestral, synth, rhythm - WOW.

Genesys88 when it comes out or GenesysPRO.

If you have Tyros, no need to buy motif.
If you have a triton, no need to buy a synth.

So you need something that adds value to your collection: Genesys
