Rolandfan, I agree with you a little..The 86 was a nice board..I think the G800 had an edge over the 86..except the 86 had speakers.. I totally disagree with you that the G1000 is aside compared to the Tyros...Although sounds and styles are subjective[personal taste]..I find most of the G1000 bank sounds favorable to the Tyros. Many of the Tyros sounds have that annoying fake vibrato built into the sample..I rather control the vibrato with after-touch.. We all get use to the sounds of our own keyboards, and prefer them, but in my previous point...it is true..
As for styles ...I prefer Roland styles, and always have..Yamaha as the other manufacturers, have some nice styles, but across the board...give me Roland styles...besides styles can be converted[Roland seems to sound better with the converted styles , more so then the other way around].. Now for the "biggie"...Features... The 8 year old G1000, has features Yamaha does not even know about.. Like Chord sequencer, a real 16 track sequencer, assignable features with after-touch that Tyros does not have, Control for up to six layers[parts] separately, including expression]. The old G1000 even utilized markers for SMF's.[as Tyros].. More features that Tyros can't touch.. The quickest SMF search and play from media..The same with styles..The best SMF editing of SMF's in real time and easily saved[system exclusive].
As for easy to operate...when you get use to any board this is second nature...That being said..I can do anything faster and smoother "Live" than anyone on a Tyros, Korg or Ketron..
Personally, I think the G1000 was[is] the most advanced arranger of it's time..[1998]..
And this "dated" thing makes me laugh.. A cha cha is still a cha cha..same with a polka...and every other known rhythm..
A piano sounds like it did forever, a sax...a trumpet..
Does the Tyros have great sounds...absolutely.. Is it worth given up all the features, key feel, get around, performances etc...that the Tyros can't touch.....If the answer was YES, I would already have a Tyros..
