Wireless MIDI has been available for a while from Nady. It makes sense with something like a Roland AX-7 controller. I am not sure it is that helpful for keyboardists who do not move around the stage.

Suppose you could access an arranger module from off stage ?
Trigger arrangements with midi bass pedals or one controller in real time ?

This brings to mind the now discontinued(?)guitar strap on type midi keyboard controlers: the Roland AX1: http://synth.free.fr/030011.php3
& Le Key from a French company called LAG. http://www.harmony-central.com/Newp/WNAMM99/Lag/Le-Key.html

I had seriously considered purchasing one of these at one time, as they're great for walking into the audience. With both wireless mic & midi, this would provide the ultimate in flexibility & portability. The Roland was a bit flashy (bright) for my tastes. Unfortunately the Le Key $1,900 US dollars. Anyone here own or have any experience with these units?

Hi Scott,
What d'ja mean too flashy? After looking at the pics the roland would have had to have been smothered with sequins just to match my outfit.
Am not too sure about wireless midi tho. Would there be problems with dropout and such? We have a wireless network for the pc's at home and if the dog sits a funny way we get awful trouble. It would be terrible if in the middle of a song everything cut. I agree that it would be pretty cool to wander about but could you trust it?

Thanks Dan. I certainly like the flashy, yet classy pearl white color! I'm curious about the reliability & range of wireless midi is in a stage performance situation? Thanks. - Scott

Dan is right. roland did show and sell a new AX1 controller, and Dan, back in 1984 we had wireless midi but it was really expensive to buy and use.

If Bluetooth technology takes off and the chips get cheap with mass production then midi should be a breeze. Hundreds of channels with auto switching and recognition, but maybe leave your mobile off while on stage, just in case
