Hi,

I got my 3.3V SSFDC Smart Media Card from FRY's Electronic for around $15. They are available in many places. A 128MB will hold a lot; but I would suggest that you only store your "favorite styles" in it for when you want to play your best songs. Everything on the Smart Media Card, and everything else, should go onto a Flash Drive which is much safer.

You should also purchase a USB Hub with 4 slots to plug in back of your PSR3000. It doesn't have to be powered, and costs less than $10. You can plug in TWO USB devices there to download anything you want either from a Flash Drive or from an external USB Floppy Drive. Since I also have a PSR740 which uses Floppies, I can load any of my floppies into the PSR3000 using the USB Floppy Drive; and it performs just like anything you can do within the KB itself. Of course, you can transfer everything you have on floppies onto a Flash Drive in your computer very efficiently.

USB Drives are dirt cheap now, and far superior to the Smart Media Card; and you can store EVERYTHING on them in folders in sizes which the PSR3000 can read. In San Diego, a 1 Gig 2.0 Flash Drive is less than $20 at FRY's Electronics.

On a 1 Gig Flash Drive, you can store thousands of styles, all your midifiles, anyone else's midifiles you want to keep, registrations, voices, gig disk files you have, etc. It should also be noted that you can even plug in a 20 Gig Flash Drive and it will work fine; and they are relatively cheap too. I just purchased a 4 Gig 2.0 Flash Drive for $50 which I will use as backup for everything I have for the KB.

It should also be noted that you can use the Hub to plug in TWO Flash Drives which the KB will read in USB1 & USB2 on your Keyboard LCD screen.

On the PSR3000 you can copy or cut anything from either of the two USB devices or to or from the Smart Media Card without using your computer.

In your computer, you can organize everything exactly like you want. For example, you will have so many styles, you can put them in folders by types, name of who sent them, by name of keyboard they were converted from, or by alphabet. Set up folders to download midifiles from your computer to play in the KB or save. Put all your song registrations by Song Title in a folder so that you can find them and play instantly. Store good "voices" you receive in a folder to play in your KB.

What is really great is that you can take your Flash Drive with you in your pocket anywhere, and plug it into any PSR3000 and play it just like if you were still at home on your own KB.

Well, enough rambling on this. Just thought I'd give some info that a few members might not know about regarding the PSR3000 and its USB capabilities.

Best regards,

Del

Thanks for the tips! Do you know if Olympus SmartMedia cards work with the PSR-3000? Also, I can't seem to find 128 MB cards for under $60 or so from any reputable online seller.

At "psrtutorial.com", you can click on "Lessons" and then click on "Smart Media Card" for info available about them.

Smart Media Cards by "TOSHIBA", "San Disk", Edge", "Delkin", "Memorex" and "Olympus" are listed in the lesson as compatible for the PSR3000.

The main thing is to be sure you purchase a Smart Media Card with the "notched corner" on the RIGHT SIDE. That means it requires "3.3 volts". Purchase the "3.3 version (3V)" and make sure that the Smart Media Card is compatible with the "SSFDC Forum" standard. The 128MB size is recommended.

For further info, go to "psrtutorial.com".

Hope this helps.

Smartmedia is perfectly reliable so long as you don't repeatedly remove and replace it. Stick one in the keyboard and then tape over the slot!

However there's no point being stupid... mine is backed up to to a USB stick, just in case!
