I have had my PSR-S900 since early June and it has worked perfectly in spite of being played 3-4 hours a day.

I checked with Yamaha Head Office and there seems to be no problems reported here in Canada.

Very disappointing to see this happen...certainly isn't doing Yamaha's reputation any good.

No company wants its customer to end up with a defective product.

keep your 3k's & Tyros 2's at least they are proven road worthy. seeems they let these S-series units go a bit too early its really not acceptable.

Don't always believe that the manufacturer is telling you the truth. Yamaha knows full well when one of their products has serious build quality or software issues, but letting the consumer know that could be detrimental to their sales. Case in point the PSR 9000 Pro. Yamaha knew that the 9000 Pro's main processor wasn't fast enough to handle all the tasks the keyboard was supposed to do and no amount of software updates could change that. The hardware wasn't upgradeable so there was no possible fix in sight. In the end Yamaha abandoned the 9000 Pro altogether and left users who spent nearly $4K on one hanging with a keyboard that had no support and no possible fix.

Few companies will freely give out information regarding a product, whether it has numerous defects, or if it has software issues. It just doesn't make good business sense for them to be honest. Sad but true!

I work for Yamaha Canada...but then again, I am only a tiny (very) spoke in a VERY big wheel and perhaps this information isn't available to one of their minions.

Hey Tim,

I'm really sorry to hear about the bad S900.

It's now come to the point that worrying about receiving a working keyboard takes presence over the excitement of actually getting, and playing a new board.

I read in another post, another member received a defective S900:

Unless I read it wrong, it now sounds like you need permission to send a defective keyboard back?

In my opinion Yamaha has to confront this, as it seems like it is now a real problem. All these defective S900's that have been reported is not good PR

What we really need to know is it a mass production problem with the S900, or is it an isolated batch?


Anyway, a friend of both Tim and I, is scheduled to receive his S900 today, Wednesday Oct 3. He is worried. I don't blame him. He should be happy. Not worried.

I'll let you know what happens.

Guys...
I'm still waiting for a call from the store to see what Yamaha is going to do. Seems they may have located one somwhere nearby. Anyway, FedEx is picking up the box today. That's all I know for sure at this point.

All that aside, it's encouraging to have you guys share in my disappointment. Your responses reveal one of the great advantages to this site...mutual support and understanding. It makes it all a little easier to handle...and I'm confident all will end well.
