Dan, I agree, but now you have an excuse to rent the old Charlton Heston movie and make a comparison. Movies are not just about special effects, like Hollywood seems to think nowadays.
By the way, I have just bought from Amazon "Lawrence of Arabia", special edition (2 DVDs), plus "Four weddings and a funeral" and "Lock, stock and two smoking barrels" (good to learn british dialects..... do you agree, Tony?)
They are all very good, each in its own way.

what can you tell me about the Liverpool dialect in "Lock stock"? It's even worse than cockney, in my (foreigner) opinion!

People from Liverpool/Merseyside are generally known as 'scousers'. Personally I think (and I will get sooo much flack for this) the accent/ dialect grates like fingernails on a chalkboard. It is true that here in Lancashire our dialect is not much more refined saying things like 'nowt' meaning nothing and coo coo instead of cuckoo!

However there are those of us who, trying to emulate our own dear Queen, try to speak all refined like wot should be spoke!

Hence we say Powend instead of pound growend instead of ground and best of all start EVERY conversation with the phrase 'My husband and I....'
