That's the name Norton uses when a new virus, as yet unnamed, as been dis overed. Their website says to submit it and they will let you know what to do. Check it out.

A utility like cyberscrub would be able to obliterate it if you can find out where the bug is hanging out. You can get it for 15 days free:

Good Luck,

One other thing--be certain you have the latest definitions for Norton. If not, then the virus you have may have already been identified, named and have a removal tool available at Symantic (Norton).

The reason Norton may not be able to delete is because it may be IN USE. If this is the case, find the location of the offending file, open a command prompt, position yourself to that directory and rename the file. The delete the renamed file.

The reason Norton can't delete it is that, although it identified it as having virus characteristics, it is new and hasn't been studied in order to provide definitions and repairs for it. That's why it is identified as "Bloodhound". They ask that you report it to them so they can address it.

DonM, with all due respect, Bloodhound has been around since 2002 in various flavors:

Please see this advisory from Symantec: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w95.cih.1049.html

I would assume, Norton should have found this variant.

Vadim, did you update your virus signature files?

Bloodhound is the name that Norton gives to ANY new undefined virus, as explained in the Symantic link that I gave above.

I gave up using Norton a year ago when I was introduced to AVG which in Uk is free.
As I remember during my attachment to Norton, they could not zap ANY of the virus which they discovered in my mail, but they advised transfer to the 'Quarantine' log. I always did this and then 'deleted it from there.
cheers

I use AVG on my laptop and it seems to work very well. When my Norton subscription expires, I will probably use it on the desktop pc also.
