Does anyone know of any arrangers that have weighted key actions - or are they mostly sythn action? -

Mike

Mike,
the Roland VA 76 (as well as the older G 1000) has semi-weighted keys. As far as I know, no arranger has full weighted keys.
Regards,
Andrea

Hi Mike: Panasonic-Technics produces a great line of 'fully weighted action' arranger style keyboards

in their "Digital Ensemble" Line:
http://www.prodcat.panasonic.com/shop/listmodels.asp?categoryid=264

I have performed on the Sx PR-703 and it has the SAME 'auto accompaniment type' features as the KN (KN6500/6000) keyboard line, but with fully weighted keys. The piano sound and action is terrific IMHO. If you need 88 fully weighted keys then the PR-703 or PR903 may definitely be the one for you. You will need to go to a traditinal piano/organ store that carries the Technics line to see them. - Scott

Mike,
Roland makes the KF 90 which I have commented on often after last years NAMM show. It is the same packaging as their FP9 digital Piano except this one has a large touchscreen, 16 track sequencer, vocal harmonizer, great VA sounds, and of course, a great arranger section. You can make your own styles, play styles direct from disk, show lyrics and score on the screen and the keyboard has Rolands great 88 hammer weighted action and built in speakers. This piece is exactly as one of the KR keyboards which look like a home piano except that this is a portable, which can be carried around easily.
I love this piece in my store!

The Roland KF90 is definitely really nice http://www.rolandus.com/PRODUCTS/CK/naam_w01/kf90_b.htm
and certainly slimmer and (more portable) than the PR703. Unfortunately the KF90 doesn't recognize jazz chord voicings (rootless Bill Evans style), the Technics PR-703 DOES! I personally prefer the Technics piano sample & key feel over Roland's.

How about Yamaha's newest flagship model, the CVP-209? It has all the arranger features of the PSR9000 and 2000, and then some. But it is a piano (not portable). Oh, and the US dealers asking like, $8000 for it!

regarding keys and chords

This recognition of rootless chords is a must have for me - as is the storage of relatively long sequences that are cued up with the related song for performance and trigged by pushing a button when needed.

I realize this is a departure from the weighted key topic but it sounds like technics may be the only one that fits all my needs BUT the store at which I have a large unrefundable credit does not handle technics. So I am waiting to hear about the new features of the GEM Genesys - who knows.

thanks for all the feedback
