I'll tell you how LAME this years Grammys are ........ I'm watching "Grease 2" !
(one of the WORST movies that I love !)

I changed it after 10 minutes!!!

I watched "Star Trek- Enterprise" and then
surfed~~~~~~~~~~the web~~~~~~~~~~!!

Wow ! I gave the "post show" a chance, but it was even WORSE ! Man - TV is tired all of a sudden, but that Bian'ce looked mighty fine ! She took off a few lbs, I think. Pretty girl..... and what's UP with Alicia Keys EYES ? Someone dropped a whole bottle of glitter glue on her face ! And Madona's "moveable mole" was there too ! AMAZING ! Wish I was famous.

OK, I'm sure I'll get creamed after these next few comments, but what the heck....The reason the Grammy's is getting harder to watch is there are less and less musicians there. I mean, look at the new" quote unquote" musicians or stars (lots of gas burning). Brittany spears? cmon, when she was a wee lass, somebody saw that look, that navel, and said, hey, somebody start writing grooves and throw in any words. That girl will make us millions. You can say the same for most of her generations entertainers. My musician test is, hand them an instrument, put them in front of an audience and say, entertain me. no effects, no band, just you the instrument and the mike (with clothes on). Most of the new talent wouldn't last 2 songs. No one has had to really write substantial quality music utilizing theory and all that stuff your piano and band teacher kept beating you over the knucles with....They get some basic grooves, cover it up with busy catchy phrases, noises, rythms and video it with as little clothes on as possible. Sorry Folks. I know times are different, and music is in the eye or ears of the beholder, but 90% of these folks can't tell you or show you on an instrument what a c minor is. They don't need to. The industry is all about $$$$ and sales these days. There's more junk per square CD than ever before. That's (J/CD)2. Thus, is it really suprising that the Grammy's are so awful and boring and lifeless and filled with crap.....Now, give me this forum's members on stage with PSR's and Korgs and Technics, and well you get the picture...now that's talent!!! that would hold any crowd....have fun with this one B2

I couldn't agree more with B2. Even my 24 year old, single, guitar playing son will say sarcasticly "Yeah and Brittany Spears is a singer". I look at the boy singing groups like the Backstreet Boys and such and ask "can these guys do anything but sing"? Take the Fab Four, the Stones, The Duke, Stevie Wonder, and all the truly great ones, they composed, played, and sang their music. I'm not trying to diminish the talent of singing but singers are a dime a dozen. Always have been. For every Ole Blue Eyes that has made it there are hundreds if not thousands of better singers out there who haven't. I enjoyed Frankie over the years but he always had a monster band with great arrangements making him sound even better.

I totally agree "hand them an instrument, put them in front of an audience and say, entertain me".

I do have to admit that being a male, (with very few molecules of testosterone left in this old body)that Brittany doesn't need an instrument.

Somebody please fill in Don down in Shreveport LA as to who Brittany is. He has led a very sheltered life. Don she authored the Encycloepdia Brittanyica.

....and billy joel.....and elton john....and james taylor.....and fleetwood mac.......and the moody blues......and jackson browne.......etc etc etc....they just don't make em like they used to I swore I'd never say that to younger people...but like my dad used to say, "the older I get, the smarter my dad is". (man, I'm such an old fart). I shouldn't be all inclusive here, because I realize there are many talented musicians in this generation x....my fear is, unless you go to clubs and holes in the wall....you won't find many of them. It's almost a reverse of our times. The really talented good ones will never grace the stage of a 30,000 seat auditorium/civic center....but the ones who sell due to whatever gimmick it is they have...will. OK, I've wasted too many brain cells on this already...Cheers!! B2

.... I don't know the ages of any of you kids, but I know I'm old .. no, I take that back. I'm oldER ..... I've said (very recently) on another page of this forum that music knows no age.... but that stuff on the Grammys ?!?!?!!!.....everything has to be over produced and underclothed to keep your mind off the music(?) ... I kept watching because I was hoping to hear Billy and Tony sing NY State .... stayed up to the end, but must have tuned in too late .... how was it?.... as for Mr. Sinatra, he could sit on a chair, cigarette in hand, glass of wine on the table (man I could NEVER drink red wine and sing, how 'bout you uncle dave?), with nothing but Jobim blowing bossa chords on guitar behind him, and sound GREAT!!! .... and the groups of MY teen era (mid-late 50's) could throw out some great harmonies over a 4 chord progression played mostly by piano (acoustic, of course), tenor, bass, and drums ..... PS right on about Alicia also UD .... seemed cute, but HOW did she keep those eyes open???

Admittedly, I watched about 10 minutes. That's all I could take of the "PLEASE LAFF AT MY JOKES!!!" host.

Looked in again after about 2 hours to see if there was any improvement.

I can't believe that Dylan sang a whole song and I couldn't understand one word he was singing!!! He also had a cowboy hat on with a weird Tennessee Ernie Ford Pencil Mustache too ..YIKES!!!!! As for "OUTCAST" and that guy with the Pink Trench Coat, "Gonna get ya Sucker" Pimp hat and Long Platinum Blonde hair? Shhhhhheeeeessshh!!!! Thats when I shut it off and put on Sinatras greatest Hits :>)!!

yes,the show was lame---but please notice that some cool music got grammys, most of which wasn't on the show. The "Oh Brother" soundtrack is an awesome record, I thought that it would be a cult favorite and have been amazed by its popularity. A gospel Grammy went to "Spirit of the Century" by The Blind Boys of Alabama--------people, you MUST hear this record! The only gospel record that I have ever purchased. It is not required that you have a single religious bone in your body to love this music! This is American Soul Music of the highest quality and these old men can rock the house!
And Delbert McClinton gets some recognition(Blues ) after soooo many years. There is quality music out there folks, but not much made it onto the Grammys' telecast.

I saw the Blind Boys of Alabama on Conan O'Brian a few weeks ago & was quite impressed.

Lucky for me i had dart league the night of the Grammy's so i had no chance to be disappointed. Who votes for these people anyway? It seems that the same bands are there every year. Another thing that kills me is that of all the great bands that are out there, about 20 or so get nominated (the one they show on TV) & then 3 or 4 of them take home most of the awards! What a joke!

... my wife and I took a ride (about an hour)to the Mohegan Sun Casino on Friday to see Nancy Wilson in a small (300 cap) lounge setting ..... piano, bass, drums, and Nancy ... she sounds and looks great ... the musicians truly where MUSICIANS ... what a change from the noise and pandemonium of the Grammys ....

Wow - that sounds like a great show. I LOVE Nancy Wilson. (Even the "Heart" one, but especially the "Jazz" one !)

That's kind of the sound I go after - a basic trio with vocals, except I feature more of a harmony setting, like the 4 Freshman or Manhatten Transfer alot. That's what I want to sound like.

My favourite moment was when Patti LaBelle came on and proceeded to blow away those throwaway warblers on Lady Marmalade. She gave 'em the old, "this is MY song and THIS is how ya do it". Good on ya, Patti!

...it WAS a great show, and she did some tunes from a new album she just did with Ramsey Lewis, Van's Moondance, a nice tune by Patti Austin, couple of others ... she's there this week from Thurs through Sun ... $15 cover Thurs, Fri ... $25 Sat, Sun .... go for it .. it's not THAT long a drive .....

I think I was 14 or 15 at the time when she released an album with Cannonball Alderly.
Blew me away. The lady has got pipes!!!

.... admittedly, I have not listened to a 'lot' of her stuff, but that will change .... and her 'pipes' are still working great .... during her rendition of Moondance, while the spot was on the piano player during his solo, you could tell she was coughing quite a bit, but when she came back in you would never know it .... she did a version of "My Funny Valentine", in such a high register, I thought of someone gently tightening the high strings on a guitar ... and it was all so pure .... had a chance to speak with the guy controlling the mixing board after the show ... he raved about working with her "A very classy LADY" to quote him ... he also said that once they do a sound check, he never touches the controls for her mic .... and she knows how to use it ....
GREAT LADY, GREAT SHOW ....planning on going back with some friends this Friday ...

and you could go on and on. my point is that there are musicians getting famous based on personality alone at ANY point in history. this is not necessarily a bad thing, since the primary purpose for most of these musicians is to ENTERTAIN...

The absolute worst "singer" of all time--has to be Fabian.
