I currently use a Roland MC-80 to playback midi sequences, I then load the SMF to the Tyros, and the playback is not as good as the Roland's.
I am assuming the Tyros uses a GM soundset for SMF playback, (which is poor ) can I have the Tyros instantly re-voice to use the Tyros better voices or do I have to go into each program change and put it in myself?

I knew that about 5 years ago but I figured since we have these modern marvels of inventions and $4000 + keyboards, you would think they were able to do something to get close enough to compete, but I guess not.
So it will take me years of remapping program changes to make the Tyros closer to the GS soundset

frankieve,
I'm guessing that midifiles played on the Tyros will sound similar to those played on the 2000. Midifile playback inthe majority of the cases does sound better on my PA80 than on my 2000, but not sure if it's at the level of the Roland's.
For midifiles that I like to use ( I don't use very many though ), I usually reassign the appropriate 2k / PA80 voice in Sonar and save. I have to do this a lot with the Motif too, as it doesn't always recognize the drums, but of the three, I would say the Motif has the best GM set, but the files still need work on it too.

Guys this is pretty cool, you Tyros and other PSR owners might be interested in,
I posted the same question on another forum and was given a link to a program. This program allows all PSR model owners ( including Tyros ) to go through the midi file, and automatically change programs to the better voices, with a click of the button,
