I use a Dell Inspiron 5100 on the job and at home. I use a MidiSport USB cable for midi, but when I want to use mp3's I plug a heavy duty 1/8" stereo plug into the headphone jack with either two RCA jacks or a stereo 1/4" jack on the other end to go to the PA. Any wiring setup I use causes a hum. I can't seem to find the right combination of sheilded/polarized or whatever. I have good, Hosa and Conquest cables, but still have plenty of hum. Any help.

I had the same problem..and Professor Gary solved it. Get an adaptor to eliminate the ground. 69 cents eliminated the hum.

Gary's solution:
"If you are hooked up to a laptop computer, and using the laptops external power supply, this has been a problem. It is very easily solved by merely connecting the power supply to a standard ground defeater plug that is available in any hardware store for under $1."

So..I guess it is called a Ground Defeater Plug. I found one at Home Depot. 69 cents.

Cassp,

This is what they look like. The J-3 is the model you want.

It will solve your problem.
