Great work Rory.
BTW, my van broke down in Hughes Springs, TX one night years ago. I was there for four hours and not a single car passed by.
I was able to replace a belt, but the battery was dead.
I finally stole a battery off a truck at a car lot, jumped the battery and then took the stolen one back. You would think THAT would bring a policeman, but no.
Enjoy your performance there. It's pretty country, but sorta isolated. If you come through Shreveport on the way, stop and visit!

Love it! A very unique concept and I agree that it sounds better than the original. There's this "Desafinado" feeling I get listening to this one and that says a lot as Desafinado is my favorite Bossa Nova. The Bossa Nova is perfect to capture that feeling of loneliness while the Country version sounds rather uplifting. Now why didn't Stan Getz come up with this one?

What a GREAT rendition ... loved it ... not to take away from the vocal, but I thought the instrumental part was REALLY great ...

Thanks again everyone.

Tony, I agree. I have always considered myself an instrumentalist first, vocalist second.

Diki, I do not own an arranger. The new S900 or possibly the new Ketron unit with live players sounds appealing to me though. I've thought about an arranger for a couple years, which is why I visit here, but they've always been a little too stiff and a little too synth sounding for me to actually buy one. I mostly do organized concerts, not spontaneous bar or restaurant gigs, so I either use custom built sequences or CD backing tracks that i produce. But the Tyros II sounds pretty decent to me; so I'm assuming the S900 will as well. But really what I'm anxious to hear is the Ketron unit with the live players.
I would assume my arrangement would work fairly respectably on an arranger, because the bossa tends to repeat itself pattern wise a bit more than other types of rhythms. Guess you'd just have to try it

Any objection if I add this version to my repertoire? This is one of the coolest re-inventions I have heard, and I would love to be able to perform it sometimes (with appropriate credits, of course!). Especially down here in the South, as long as they recognize the tune, you can get away with all kinds of cool stuff.... (I've got a reggae version of Crystal Blue Persuasion that's one of our most popular tunes!)

Permission granted?

Diki,
Of course you can perform this arrangement. Or, your arrangement of my arrangement If you get it worked up, I'd ask you to record you performing it for me just out of curiosity to hear how it works out for you.

Taike asked,
"now why didn't Stan Getz come up with this one?"
Well, he probably couldn't bring himself to listen to country music. And anyway, if he had come up with it, then I couldn't have. And you wouldn't deny me that pleasure would you?

Next project: Take a Bossa Nova and turn it into Country. Never been done before as far as I know so another first although I wonder how that will turn out. Keeping my fingers crossed for another big surprise!
