Hi all, I'm in the process of buying a new keyboard and was thinking of a psr3000 but i have spotted a kn7000 for sale and it looks like a nice bit of kit.. I'm just a home user and was wondering which you would recommend...

Cheers

Interesting comparison, considering that 2 years ago, I was trying to decide between the Tyros & KN7000.

Some important questions:

1) Are you a vocalist, and is having a pro level quality sounding 'built in vocalizer an important consideration?
2) What type of music do you play and types of gigs (if any) are you planning to use the kb for?
3) Will you be wanting to do a lot of onboard sequencing?

build quality, and keyboard build & feel (full sized keys & responsive synth action), impressive orchestral instrument sounds & terrific onboard sequencing abilities, the KN7000 (imho) outshines the PSR3000 by a mile. The qualms I have about the KN7000 is its terrible sounding (cheap) built in vocalizer, and that the fills not particularly suitable for combo settings, but rather orchestral, as the built it style's fills rarely emphasize drums (snare/toms) but strings & orchetral instruments instead. The PSR3000 on the other hand includes an impressive sounding built in vocalizer as well as drum based fills which to me more suitable and appropriate for emulating a rhythm section combo.

Personally, because I already own a Tyros, I would choose the KN7000 for all the reasons listed above which outshine the PSR3000, but you'll need to base 'your' decision on your own individual needs and taste of course. THe KN7000 is a top of the line KB (albeit out of production, including the company (TEchnics keyboard division), while the PSR3000 is a mid line model arranger. Hope this helps guide you in your decision making. - Scott

There's another musician in my area who does the local retirement home circuit. He plays the KN7000. I play the PSR3000. Technique-wise, he plays rings around me.

I have had numerous old folks, including a life-long musician, come up to me and tell me that I'm a better musician than my friend with the KN7000.

Knowing that this is simply not true, I suspect that they are enjoying the music out of the PSR3000 more than the KN7000.

I agree with Beakybird 100 percent. Plus there is one added feature--support. If you're looking for third party styles and help with problems, there are more 3rd party styles for Yamaha boards than all others combined. Ask a quesion about your keyboard here or any other general aranger forum and you'll have a viable answer in less time than anyone can imagine.

Good Luck,

Gary

Let me throw my 2 cents into the thread. Based on what I've read on the forum, I just ordered a PSR 3000. I have to wait another 5 days before it's delivered so I don't have it yet.

This past weekend I printed out a copy of the PSR 3k manual and also a copy of the Yamaha Clavinova CVP 307 manual. The Clav is a much more expensive instrument( I think it's some where in the $7000 plus range). And the when I compared page by page the 2 manuals I was amazed to discover that both instruments really parallel eachother in regards to their features!! The 2 major differences seem to be price and the fact that the Clav is a digital piano. The way to go is the PSR 3000.

I've got a kn6000 that I'll put up against any psr3000 ...
Perhaps you are a better 'entertainer' than the guy with the kn7 ...
I played with a band for 26 years .. we weren't the best MUSICIANS, but we could make a crowd party with the best of them ...

PS But for future considerations, Gary is right about the support issue ...
