Roland waveforms in the JV/XP series were always compressed using Roland's own propietary audio compression. It was around a 2:1 ratio that allowed Roland to provide more waveforms in ROM. I can't recall that there was anyone else other than Roland doing this. I guess now they announce it when they aren't compressing audio waveforms as a marketing feature.
