I just got my PA1X Pro and after playing it for about an hour all I can say is WOW!! This thing sounds and looks amazing! The key feel is awesome and the built quality is 10 times better than PA80. The colored touch screen is easy to use and the volume sliders are very handy. Most of the styles are from PA80, but they sound much better.

I didn't get a chance to play it too much but one of the complaints I had with PA80 was with the fills not timed correctly and when I switched from Yamaha PSR to KORG PA, I kind of missed the tight fills that Yamaha had. Looks like Korg has finally fixed the issue with fills. Again, I didn't get much time to check all the styles out but the ones I played sounded perfect.

The TC harmonizer on this thing is AWESOME!! I have a TC VoiceOne and it sounds the same as that.

The drum sounds are excellent, I also like the bass and flute sounds. Piano sounds about the same as PA80, but I have Roalnd XV5050 which has better piano sound I think.

Well, back to playing this beast!!

surprise, surprise............
after having flogged my Korg PA-80 last month I had my heart set (once more) on the
Ketron SD1plus, but after playing it for a couple of hours I decided it was disappointing after all. Hence I have decided to stick with Korg, notwithstanding their (fairly) poor acoustic piano sound and their arrogant customer support. (by some of them anyway).
What I have heard so far from the new Korg convinces me it is superior to the PA-80, which in itself is a good board really.
Perhaps Roland will spring a surprise on us in April at the Frankfurt Fair, though I doubt it to be good enough to compete with the current top 3 (Korg, Ketron and Yamaha).
I am always amazed by the sales of the Tyros as I regard it to be a home-keyboard more than anyting else, and not one for the professional entertainer out there on the stage. (but then I don't like Yamaha keyboards, never have, never will........)
Ah well, one has to allow each individual his idiosyncracies !
I will have to be patient as regards the new Korg as I have ordered the 61key version with speakers, which should be out in appr. 6 weeks time. Apparently already in heavy demand with the shopkeepers notwithstanding its (very) high price-tag.
As I mentioned on an earlier entry I have a sneaking suspicion many, many more of you will have included this new Korg baby in their set up come this summer.........

regards,
john

My review of PA1X Pro at HC:
http://www.harmony-central.com/Synth/Data/Korg/PA1X-Pro-01.html

So far it is really fun to play, it froze on me once yesterday while trying to transfer data from my PC. I wish it had USB MIDI, but it's no big deal. I also preferred the Flash card like with PA80 for sampling instead of HD and RAM combo, with flash card all the samples were faster to load, but the damn card was so expensive so I can't complain. So far so good ....

I really had to get used to playing chord changes with left hand because of 76 keys. I guess that's because I never had a 76 key arranger before.

As far as price, I think at $3000 it is not too bad considering the features you get. Compare it to the PA80 at $1999 ... HD, Harmony board, Flash Card, Video Card, Real drums expansion card, Turkish Expansion card etc ... everything were options and these add up to about $800 - $900 (ouch!). You get all these options with PA1X. Although, I would prefer it to be cheaper, but it is not so bad.

John,

How about a review of the Sd-1 and your reasons for not buying it.

Tom
