Hello all....I downloaded VanBasco's Karaoke player on recommendation I received here and it is excellent! The midifile search engine is excellent, too!

I was wondering if anybody knows of a good application for playing midifiles that will show the chord changes. Being an accordionist I am woefully lacking on the left hand notes and am very chord-driven (i.e. Cmaj/Gm/Cmaj7 is very easy for me but watching left-hand notes play on the VanBasco keyboard doesn't help!)

As always, thank you.

Hi!
you can mute all the solo tracks and play only one track that plays the chords like: piano, guitar, organ, strings... Also you can play along the bass track to get all the detaills. To be able to read the piano keys you can slow down the tempo as much as you need.
Maybe the next version of the player will show the chords as well. Is only one step ahead.
Flavi.

Try Midinotate. It will transcribe the chords and do a good job at printing out score sheet.
A demo can downloaded from
www.midinotate.com

I also recommend you try the free version
of Myriad's Harmony Assistant. You can
easily find their site from a Google search.
It can literally make your PC sing!

What's confusing here is that presumably the vast majority of the posters here have a keyboard that costs much more than the average person will pay for a keyboard and play keyboards for a living. That being said, I can't understand the emphasis on what is "free". This is an investment in your profession. It is a tool of your trade. Why don't you "splurge" for Band In A Box that displays chords and can calculate chords based upon a midi file.

I have BIAB v12b and I must say there is not a day passes that I don't use it.
BIAB is also great for making Pad Riffs for my 9000Pro.

I play at home for pleasure and download to try a lot of free programs, some of them are very good. How often we purchase a program only to find it does not quite do what was promised.
BIAB & Power Tracks are excellent and produce better print outs than many of the more expensive sequences Cubase & Cakewalk can do.

What emphasis??? I merely was recommending
a particular piece of software to The Accordianist, that he could try out to see
if it serves his specificly requested needs (i.e., show chord changes of a midi file). It only costs $65 to register, but it is his decision whether he likes the program and wants a "registered" full-featured version or not. There is NOTHING WRONG with using a Lite version of a program that is "free".

This is an investment in your profession. It is a tool of your trade.

I agree, but "try before you buy". Who among us has never been burned after buying software?
