The following is an ad for the Tyros 2 which I think sheds a little light on the "4 Layer" keyboard. I think it should be advertised as 4 part multisampled which is what you get with high end soft and hard samplers.

This means that they would sample (for eg) each piano note with a soft strike then a medium strike, then a hard strike and also a very hard strike as it's not just the volume that changes but the tone/timbre as well. this is probably more true of other instruments like reed and brass but that's the general idea.

It is basically how they already implement the megavoices by allocating a different sample for a number of dynamic ranges

The ad also mentions new organ voices !!!!

AD READS AS FOLLOWS:

Well one thing in that spec list turned me a bit sour.
--------------------------------
new hard disk audio recording with optional HD for studio quality CD creation.
new sample playback
--------------------------------

Am I reading correctly in that is says "optional" HD?? So in order to use the HD recording feature you'll have to shell out more money to do this? If that's the case, then I truly don't see that feature being worth it at all considering boards are now starting to include HD recording (with multiple tracks). The Alesis Fusion synth has 8 track hard disk recording with large HD standard. Plus more sophisticated sequencer, and voice editing than the new Tyros. Plus the Alesis only cost $1,699. If Yammie is going to make the buyer dish out more money just for HD recording they shouldn't have even bothered adding it to the spec list.

I'm strongly considering the Tyros 1 for my set up. I don't see the need for spending all that extra dough for what they say "will be an instant hit with the professional community". talk about tooting their own horn there Nobody has even used one of these on stage, studio, or in the OMB set up yet.

Hey Squeak_D, Have you demoed the Alesis Fusion? Is it out yet? Why would you consider the Tyros "Classic" before demoing the Alesis Fusion?

Starkeeper,
Sadly I haven't had the chance to demo it yet. However, I'll be up north for my sisters wedding next week and I was told that there's a store up there that has one on the floor I have talked to people who own the unit and are COMPLETELY blown away by the synth. One guy was all set to buy the Motif ES6 before he demoed the Alesis. He said after 20 minutes with the Alesis there was just no comparison when it came to features and price.

The reason I'm considering the Tyros classis is because my set up is going to consist of one top quality arranger and one top end synth. I've been eyeballing the Tyros as my arranger, and will come to a conclusion if I get to demo the Alesis next week.

Squeak,
The Tyros won't have the type of styles that you like. Not sure if you could get those type of styles from the net or 3rd party vendors.
Give us a review of the Alesis once you demo it. Sounds like you are rolling in dough.

Starkeeper,
When I buy an upper end arranger it's primarily for the ability to write my own styles. oddly enough the only thing I really even use from a preset style are the drums (and bass line if it's funky enough). The Tyros has a good style recorder.

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I get to see the Alesis next week.

What is the significance of this?

"new organ section voiced in the UK"

Why did they add the UK part? Are the best organ voicing experts located there?

Things that make you go hmmmmm....

Hi Kbrkr
Cant go in to details but I have been reliably informed that there is more then just the Organ voicing that has been done by UK Artists and Demonstrators, quite a few of which were flown over to Japan for a few months at various times during the Tyros 2 development.
Related to the above, I would also like to mention that it is no coincidence that the World Premier of Tyros 2 to the public, will in the UK

Bill

Sorry, I haven't mastered these posting symbols yet. I was going to point out that the AR-100, which specialised in development of the organ section, was programmed mainly in the UK and largely marketed here (UK). Tyros 1 included some AR-100 organ settings - the preset area using tibia, kinura, etc. Martin Harris is a bit of a specialist in this.
