Dear Group,
I tried the vocalizer on my new 9K Pro today for the first time. I used a Shure SM58. The unit seemed to be working as it should (as per descriptions in the owner's manual) but seemed to have some intermittent distortion in the harmony voices. Also, they seemed to drop out once in a while then come back in. My lead vocal (me) sounded alright with no distortion, only the harmony voices. I pushed the "settings" button and tried various alterations to the parameters there but with not success.

The Yamaha harmonizer is very good, but a little tricky and finiky.(spelling??)
The input level is the most important thing to deal with to get the best sound. Play with the level and try different settings - also try the compressor - it will smooth out some of the low spots that may drop out of the processors range.
I personally, hate noise gates - but the one on the 9kpro might help you too.
You might want to try a hotter mic than the sm58 - they are a low signal, and better suited for PA input channels.
I like the EV n/dym series - the 767a kicks a LOT of sound out for very small cash outlay!

Hi DVJ,

My wife and I have the same problem. It works most of the time OK when I sing, but when my wife sings I get lots of distortion. But her voice is much clearer and better than mine without VH.

I think that the factory settings are to strong, and there is to much VH as a back up.

Turning down the VH volume for ea. voice from 100 to 86 was the only way we could solve that problem. Don't forget to save your settings as a user file.

As UD said try different settings and experiment. I also thing you should get a different Mic. We use a AKG 1000S. It works great and is also great for recording.

Eric

Eric,
I have 4 of those 1000s's in my studio - I LOVE em ! They are great on acoustic guitars and vocals, as well as drum overheads. I think it's my favorite "go to" answer before I try anything else. I have several large diaphragms, but the 1000s is still a favorite.

Hi Eric

I had the same trouble .I tried for 2 weeks, SM58 and AKG micros and different settings with results that made me uneasy.
My voice:100%
My singer voice:0%
The solution:
1-A fine setting of input signal.
2-Only 10% of noyse gate.
and... A US$8 mic from my daughter's karaoke.
Regards,Chico

Uncle Dave,

A while back I got an AKG 3000 (with a large diaphragm) on e-bay for an incredible price (same as the 1000S ).
It's the model before the 3000B.

Do you own one of these or have you tried it?
What do you think?

It took me some time to play around with to get it sound right, but I think I got it to work pretty well. My wife uses the 1000S.

Eric,
I don't own a 3000, but I have several other large diphragm mics, and I don't think they are as well suited to live performance as they are to studio work. The sensitivity is greater, and therfore, picks up too much unwanted noise - for instance...the clicking of the plastic keys... I hate that !
For live work, the 1000s is a better buy, but mics are personal - use what works best for YOUR voice. there is NO perfect formula for the right mic - only tried and true suggestions. When Neumann came out with a hand held mic ($500 Range) I was ready to love it .... but I didn't. There was NOT a $350 dollar difference over my EV 767a.
Don't buy "hype" - buy sound.

Eric B,
You must stay in the mic directly on the screen sing not loud and adjust the input voulme to max just before the red light. I use a peavy mic like comes with the small escort pa an a S W R workingmans 12 amp. Also use the standard harmony for ladies and the country girls for men this keeps the harmony on the scale no blanks so to speak. I also play a PSR 8000 in a five piece band I use Brass, Sax, 12 string guitar, Fiddles, Strings, Vibes. all with one hand. Lost the left in an electrical accident I also use full keyboard on the psr 740 this allows the background to follow the right hand melodie the psr 740 does this better than the psr 8000 dont know why. I play the 8000 through two 6-14e webb steel guitar amps talk about a sound wow heaven here on earth. Hope this helps.
Looking for a 9000 PR0 in the near future.
