I'm looking for an easy to use music notation software. I've been using MusicTime Deluxe but that is no longer being made. Don told me about Powertracks and I down loaded the demo. I don't believe Powertracks will let me change barline types, add repeats, 1st and 2nd endings and so on.

I'm not composing a symphony but I do make arrangements for the instruments in the praise band at my church.

I really want something simple and very basic and easy to use. What do you folks suggest?

Tom

I have been using Lime for my simple fake sheets for about 8 years. It is capable of complete orchestral notation if you need, and is the most versatile notation software that I have found that costs less than $100. http://www.cerlsoundgroup.org/

For sheer simplicity and ease of use I prefer Noteworthy Composer. http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/

It will do special endings, first, second, etc., flow direction, and much more.

Extremely simple learning curve. Hope this helps.

Hi Tom,
I went from Musictime to Songworks II. It is even easier to use than Musictime and has good support.

Hello Tom

Since 1992 I had worked with a lot of notators.
I think that Encore is the best notator.
Easy to operate and produce a nice and clean "partiture" with lyrics, chords, active coda phrases, guitar chords, dynamic action, barlines, signals, etc.
Regards,
Chico

I was thinking the same thing chico was saying...I am not an expert on notation softwares but from what I know ENCORE sounds like of the best (it may be a bit expensive though...Last I checked for it a few years ago it was in the $300 range).

Thank for the tips. I checked out most of the suggestions. Be careful of Lime. It screwed up my computer and I had to reload Windows to make it work correctly.

Lime was good but I couldn't get it to import MIDI files.

I found Noteworthy Composer simple and easy to use. It imports MIDI files better than Musictime did. It is also reasonable in cost. I was comfortable with it right away.

I'm going to use it for a while.

Thanks for the help.

Tom

Hey Tom,
now you can tell us: when are you going to compose that symphony?

I'd say - use Sibelius - very simple and powerful.
