Thank you Niels! Awesome demo!
Have just read these threads regarding the G-70 demos:
http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/012550.html http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/012517.html Now Niels has shared two great G-70 demos and it is interesting to see that critics of the Final Countdown demo put their thumbs up on the Clapton demo...
Why is that interesting? Well, within my ear there quality of the demos don't differ considerably. The musician is the same, the recording setup is the same, the instrument is the same etc. So why this change in attitude? As the critics said themselves elsewhere: "make us some acoustic demos, because this is the strength of the G-70". Hmm... so the essense in the feedback has more to do about the "TASTE IN MUSIC GENRES" more than it is a matter of the demo itself! To me that really sucks!
Maybe I am naive, but I really did think that the fine people in this forum could abstract from the fact that a demo demonstrates a genre that might not be the favorite genre of the listener... I am truly surprised to find out that far from everybody excels in a discipline. This is indeed a lesson learned to me! I have also noticed that there are differences between what the SZ visitors expect from a demo.
And finally I have noticed that nobody is really interested in knowing whether the demo is based on a midifile or not... Look at Niels's demos - they are recorded in one take using a style playing chords with the left hand and playing the solo voice in the right hand. He make breaks and alters setting, while playing... to me it seems like nobody pays attention to this and furthermore to the conditions under which the recorded took place.
Any feedback will of course be a result of someone being subjective. I am not at all questioning that. Neither I am asking anyone to be unecessarily polite, but I will recommend people coming forward with feedback to try to express themselves in terms, where the demonstrator can actually use your feedback constructively. My dogma is: if I don't have any constructive thing to say, then I'll keep my mouth shut. This doesn't mean that I will keep silent, if I disagree on a subject, but I am CONSTRUCTIVE! ALWAYS! Negative criticism is of no good to anyone!
I have wondered, why people find it necessary to comment on issues, where they have only negative crisicism to come forward with. I think Tony W. had a good point in another related thread. He said: "With regard to the my keyboard is better than yours nonsense we seemingly get preoccupied with on here I am sure it is because we have to justify (to ourselves at least?) why we just spent a small fortune on a particular brand/board. It's childish and boring." Tony makes a good point. I think that most negative comments are brought forward from people, trying to justify their own choices of model and brand by tearing to pieces, what musicians using other models and brands are producing and putting on display. And for some strange reason the non-Roland users in my view seem to take this position quite often... Look at the numerous threads regarding Tyros demos. The non-Yamaha users don't belittle the work and demos produced on the fine Tyros instruments!
I think it is time for some of us to look into yourselves and be aware of how and what we comment on! Re-think your postings before you hit the submit button. Ask yourselves: "Will this posting do any good or am I just sending bullshit!?!..."
Once again thanks to Niels, who is the far most productive G-70 musician worldwide, when it comes to G-70 demos! Keep up the good work Niels!!!
