I must say that I was very underwhelmed by the drums on ALL the demos. They don't sound alive and the cymbals sound like white noise. Almost a step backwards in my opinion. Compare these to the Tyros drums and you will notice a VAST difference. And really, the drums are what gives the style and an arranger the "GROOVE" factor.
The styles were nice in the G70 demos, but didn't really get my foot tapping and was really un-inspiring.
Does anyone else feel this way or is it simply my personal preference? I'm very critical of drums since I am a seasoned drummer.

I am glad it's not just me that gets this reaction! All the demos of the G-70 I've heard so far are highly competent musically, but somehow sound a bit "old-hat". Think late 80s/90s Yamaha Electone, or similar (no offence intended to any Electone!).
My own experience with the Roland VA-76 suggests that Roland's approach to the voicing of drum sounds generally, just doesn't suit some of us. The VA boasts some 128 different drumkits - none of which ever seems to quite be quite what I am looking for.
With the VA, many of the drum kits actually sound very realistic indeed, but often don't seem to sit well in the mix. It's almost as if Roland have made some excellent samples of poor quality (or badly tuned) accoustic drum kits.
I don't find the cymbals so much of an issue on this instrument, it's more the snare and bass drum sounds that I find a problem. Sometimes, I can find a kit with a snare that sounds right in a particular arrangement, only to discover that the bass drum it is partnered with isn't a good choice. Sometimes the reverse is true.
Whilst I would expect the G-70 to sound a lot better than the VA in a back-to-back comparison, I haven't found the demos too inspiring yet.
I am looking forwards to a hands on after Christmas so I can form a better opinion of the beast.
