I need help!! I bought a brand new Korg N1 which comes with a diskette called the Sound Editor for Win/Mac SED-03 PC Format.

I am using the PC Host 8-pin mini din to 9-pin serial cable to connect the N1 to the PC. I have attempted to load the N1 driver on two separate PC's, one Compaq and one Toshiba, one running Win95 the other Win98. In both cases, the driver caused the operating system to freeze on boot up.

I tried going to safe mode, removing the driver and doing it again. This doesn't even work, the system still locks on boot up. Bringing it down again and up again sometimes allows a boot into normal mode, but sometimes have to enter the registry and delete any reference to the N1. No matter how many times I have tried this, I get the same result. I have tried this 5+ times on each machine with the same results.

I haven't seen a post anywhere similar to this. I am not using cheap machines, the Compaq is a P120 w/32MB of RAM and nothing fancy attached to it. Am I the only one having this problem?

Any help would be much appreciated as I am dead in the water on getting my PC to even to load the driver succesfully, forget about acknowledging my N1.

Thanks.

Often these disk don't work. Maybe if you go to an N1 site at www.synthzone.com you can download another driver. It could be something else giving you problems but I use a midi interface and can't help.

Are you using a genuine Korg AG-001 or AG-001A cable? If it's a Roland or Yamaha cable, they won't work (they're wired differently).

Have you set the serial baud rate of the N1 to the recommended setting, as per the manual?

If you need the driver, you can get it at: http://www.korg.co.jp/support/SoundEditor/download/IBM.ZIP
