The ROLAND - hands down. Play them both and you'll agree. The piano in the Korg is pathetic, when will they ever get it right?

hi mcfield6,
I say you go for the XP-60 for many resons...
first of all you have the ability to add any 4 expantions board from the 19 expantions boards Roland have.secound thing is you have a very powerful composer that will make your music very perfect, the one on the N364 is not that strong and have very small memory.the korg N364 have only the RPPR thing which is good.

I say go for the xp60 if you need A synth that have A powerful functions .as you read I didn't compare the sounds because every one of us have his own view on the sounds and ofcourse your view will be diffrenet than any one else so I say you go and play them both and test the sounds and then choose.

best regards

Forget about playing acoustic samples from a keyboard , that alone is pathetic . The ROLAND XP-60 is a better choice because it has real time controls for the filter and attack , decay . The KORG does not . Plus the ROLAND has a lot of neat atmospheric synth sounds .

I would choose the xp60 over the n364.
It depends on the price. I would also check out the Korg Ms 2000 and the Norlead 2.

According to your answers,Roland xp60 comes out on top,but sound by sound without the xp60 being expanded,is the xp60 still on top?

I think you have convinced me, but when not expanded, does the xp60 still come out on top?,you see I played both and really liked some sounds from the korg,I must agree that the piano is cheesy, but sound to sound without expansion,I am speaking soundwise is the roland still better?,I agree with you that features wise it is.

Why not just bite the bullet, save up the extra and get a Korg Triton with Moss board expansion- you'll get better sounds and fx out of the box than the other 2 and a super powerful VA physical modelling synth as well as a full function sampler, sequencer, 2 arpeggiators and analogue inputs so you can use it also as a super fx unit.

However, if you are only deciding between the Xp60 and N364, I'd also get the XP60. It offers more for the money, has a better sequencer, and you can expand with your choice of expansion boards (I'd start off with the session board to get a super excellent piano sound!!).

Also, a Korg Trinity at a good price (they are older now being replaced by the Triton) is also very much worth checking out. It's biggest limitation is the 32 note polyphony but this didn't really get in my way either when I owned one.

Let me tell you something about the N364 piano, and all korg's piano sounds.
Ok, A roland Piano sounds more realistic (when used alone by itself), but, when is mixing time, I tell you, korg Pianos cut much better tru the mix, they may sound a little plasticlike, but they also sound bigger, same thing happens with Bass sounds, they are less realistic but they sound fuller.
And there are always surprises, I was making a dixieland piece, and used my JV-1080 for a Clarinet sound, and it sounded like a flute (I tried the ones in the Orchestral and POP exp boards), out of curiosity I tried the GM clarinet on my N364, and there was a Clarinet with an attitude. So eventhough I have a fully expanded JV-1080, I won't sell my N364 anytime soon.

I am not saying that the N364 is better than my JV, as a matter of fact if I had to choose between the two of them, I'd chose my JV, what I am sayng is that the JV isn't better at everything over my Korg.

See ya!
