Does anyone know if the instruments in the psr styles are always on the same midi channel. I know drums are on midi channel 10. I want to take the bass and send it to another module, so I was wondering if the bass is always on a certain channel across all the styles? Also is anyone using any of the available software to convert midi files to styles? Is there one program that is easier than the others?

By convention, the bass in Yamaha styles is always on channel 11. I do not remember ever seeing it on another channel (but there is no technical restriction).

Regards

Hi

Except for the drum channels 9 and 10 all other instruments can be in any channel in the style file.
And they actually are when the style has alternative patterns for different chords (or chordtypes).
However output channel will always be 9 - 16. The redirection of channels information is part of the CASM section in the style file.

I have a proteus 2000 and psr 3000 I want to send the drums and bass to the sound module, The sound module has alot more midi options, what I want to do is say have the bass always be, lets say, 11 wether in a style or a sequence. Thaht way I tell the module to accept channel 11 but not accept volume or program change messages. The bass and drums can still go out the 3000 this is just to fatten the low end drive. they will be on separate outputs with separate channels in the board. If the psr 3000 had the aux outs like the tyros I'd be set for life. I'm trying to give it the separate outs using a sound module. Sometimes I play with a kive drummer and need separate que. some times no bass player so I want a stronger bass.
