Although I'm new to this forum, I know this subject has been posted before. I however want to ask you some info that (in my opinion) is hard to find in all these predecessors.

What are the differences between the kn 2600 and the psr 2100?

I've come to realize that the way the two kb's sound is very subjective, so I'm asking you not to go into that matter. I have the specs lying before me and I have read them, but I found it very hard to find the things that really matter. In this forum for example, I've learned that the keys have different sizes (real piano size on the technics and smaller on the yamaha) and feels. This is something you won't find in the specs, but in my opinion is quite important.

Arguments regarding pricing can be ignored, since they appear to cost about the same amount of money where I live (the Netherlands).

To make matters even worse, I've also been offered a used KN 6000. If there is anyone who can give his opinion on this kb (in comparisson to the other two) as well, it would make my day.

It's a lot to ask, but I'm completely stuck.

The 2k's key feel is it's main weakness. I'm ok with it, you may not be. The 2k is a hell of a lot of keyboard for the money and I would be surprised if the kn2600 packs the same bangs-per-buck.

I thing a good secondhand KN6000 is too close to call and will be down to personal
preference. I've got a 2k but when I got it I was very tempted by the KN6000. Its a bit bigger and heavier but then again built like a tank so you cant have everything. Did some gigs where the "organist" used a KN6000 and I was very impressed by the sound quality. You can fit a hard disc to the KN6000 but I don't know what drives are compatible and I do know the Technics drive used to be very expensive.

I concluded that a New 6k was just too expensive, and that I could survive with swapping floppy discs on-the-fly (you can swap floppies whilst a midi file is playing on the 2k) if necessary.

Other members of this forum know lots more about the 6000.

I think the kn6000 is a great board, but this is a biased opinion as I purchased it based on my prior success with a kn1000, and without comparison to other boards ... the hard drive was pricey, but the alpha sort/search capability is a great option ... I have seen where some owners of other boards complain about the cost of technics boards, but then lament the fact that their board doesn't have certain capabilities or features that the technics boards have...
I believe you can switch floppies in the kn6000 while a midi file is playing, (its been a while since I needed to do that) but you cannot do a search on the floppy during play ... I think you might be able to do that with some other boards (?) ...
I would think that a used kn6000 in good condition and at the same price as the other 2 boards, would be a good deal ...

IMHO--The Kn6000 had problems. It is the one Technics model I would stay clear of, all the others are good. I owned a KN6000, after ten rounds trips to the service center, they finaly replaced it with a KN6500.
I do believe because the KN6500 was made to replace the KN6000. The KN6500 was the only keyboard that did not end in all zeros.
Kn800, 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, 6000, 7000.
The Kn6500 was without problems.

Thanx everyone for all your quick replies. Though all your opinions are taken in account, my problem still remains.

I was thinking more in the line of: "The Technics has a superiour sequencer, because..." or "The Yamaha has extended viewing capabilities like scores and lyrics." (Don't know if this is true.)

In a nutshell: what features does the KN 2600 have that the PSR 2100 lacks? And vice versa...

Of course all of your other considerations are still very welcome as well.

Charley, The PSR 2100 offered a lot in features for the money,,it had some downfalls for my needs, poor keyboard feel..lack of a good 16 track sequencer, and poor sequence playback[partically drums]..there were some nice sounds, but overall I prefer Roland GS sound engines..I was not impressed with the construction quality...the arranger section, pads, vocalizer, are very good...basically Yamaha tried to include the goodies, but at the cost of quality...I shipped my PSR to it's new owner this afternoon..and happily going to check out Roland EXR 5 for imediate needs[a keyboard that I can leave on the job], untill Roland releases it's new flagship arranger...When I really need to be happy playing, I still use my G1000..I wish the best to Jose[the new PSR2100 owner]......what a relief...No more Yamaha....BTW ..Casio 3500 may work for me in a band situation,,I mean..who would steal it?

and a big BUT,
be careful that you don't, one night, accidentally place it into the open trunk of an exact copy of your vehicle, parked right behind your vehicle.
