Does the Tyros2 have a 'width' control for drumkits? Or can you fairly easily adjust drum sound panning?

Both styles sounded very similar, and effective for the tune, and about the only thing that stuck out a little (for me, I have to now add!) was the exaggerated width of the Tyros' drums, especially cymbals.

When you are using stereo as a 'picture' in sound of a band, it's off-putting to 'see' the drumkit as being 20 ft wide! Sometimes sounds are pushed so far to the corners (most keyboards suffer from this problem, and few provide tools to correct it) that they literally envelop the rest of the band, something rarely seen (other than Carl Palmer of ELP!!).......

I'm not trying to 'dig' at the Tyros, I think this is a problem across the board, and I wish that, especially for drum kits, instead of a pan control (essentially useless) they had a 'width' control...........

As far as the comparison between keyboards--- My opinion – presuming you did not edit or adjust either keyboard---

Yamaha’s bass is too strong, a bit unnatural for that type of song. The G70 sounded even and natural.

The lead, the accordion was out front on the G70. On the Yamaha the lead seem to be at the same level as the style.

On my Tyros 2 I normally bring the style volume down somewhere between 85 and 90 so the melody stands our front.

I'm a solid Yamaha fan (love my PSR-3000) but I must say that the G70's style sounded more "musical" compared to the Tyros2's in this case.

JimP, nice job I enjoyed the comparison. I played your mp3s a number of times today both sound great, but the G70 has an edge..... slight as it may be.

MarcK I'm on the same page as you, I've got to be I have a PSR 3000 and a Clavinova CVP 307. But........... I preferred the G70.

Sometime ago I came across some G70 styles converted for the 3000. Gotta say I did my own comparison of the PSR's French Musette and the converted French Valse style using Under Paris Skies. I like the sound of the G70 converted style better.

If I had the extra cash laying around I'd just buy both the T2 and the g70. I'd also have to have one of the attorneys I do work for handle the divorce

I'm with Marck and Stephen: even though I own the T2, I like the G-70 Style better.
It would be great to compare other genres like Pop/Rock and Dance/Disco.
Those are the styles I use and that's why I choose the T2.

Finally had a chance to sit down and have a listen to both your MP3 demos (btw: very nice REAL accordion playing). After first enjoying your performance itself, I went back and re-listened to each rendition to pay closer attention to the auto accomp rhythm sections of each keyboard with their similarly comparable styles.

I noticed right off that Tyros2's back instrument rhythm (on 2 & 3)is supplied by an organ(?) voice while the same beats 2 & 3 instr. rhythm on the G70 is played by a much more satisfying guitar voice with more of a 'swing feel' as well. In addition the G70's overall ambience & sound has more of a live presence & punch. Though both the Tyros2 & G70 versions both shine (in their own way), I admit that the G70 sounds more satisfying to my ears. Does this mean I'm now going to trade my Tyros2 in for a G70. No. Tyros2 includes features that the G70 that are more important (personally) to me. This includes Tyros2's smaller size (footprint) and lighter weight to benefit quick gig portability. Equally essential to me is Yamaha's auto accomp 'jazz style' rootless chord recognition. Adding this to Roland's current chord recogition palette would be relatively simple (via OS update), and can assure you, that recognized chords are FAR MORE universally recognized as these than the highly esoteric chords these voicing represent now. In FACT, Korg has recently followed Yamaha's & Technics earlier lead on this and has re-assigned these specific chord voicing to recognition them as jazz type (rootless) chords as well. Like I said in my earlier review of the G70, if Roland finally does add rootless jazz chord recognition, I'd seriously consider purchasing one as a master controler keyboard for my studio because I really like it's resposive key feel and navigation. Jim, thanks for taking the time to record and share your comparison demo. I'm now really anxious to hear some more T2/G70 comparison demos in other genres, like: Jazz combo, Big Band Swing, Latin (Bossa), and Country.

Thanks for your comments. I also think the G70 has the better French Musette style.
I like the swing feel and it sounds more live to me. The Yamaha style feels more mechanical. In the next week or two I will post some songs from different genres (latin, big band, jazz and ballads).

I will also post a summary of the features I like about each keyboard and the areas that I think could be improved.

The overall sound of the Technics KN7000 was excellent for 30’s and 40’s and big band. I bought a Tyros because the overall sound was more contemporary --- Stronger drums and stronger basses, they were out front.

The song that Jim has recorded, and I love it, is in the KN7 category, even sound and lighter bass. I would like to hear a more contemporary song played on both.

I do struggle with the melody not being out front on my Tyros 2. Putting the volume down on the style ALMOST seems to do the job.
