Is it possible to make Tyros 2 or PSR-3000 to show the chords when playing back a SMF file, which was generated by another instrument/software sequencer?
I tried to play back SMF files fenerated by BIAB. I can changes the voices but I can't use Pads and my Tyrso 2 doesn't recognize chords.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Alex:

To see chords in a PSR, they must be in XF format. Fortunately, there is a very good program for doing this: PSRUTI (See http://www.heikoplate.de/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id= 67&Itemid=44 )

This is the procedure:

Open your midi file, click Compute Chords, check a chord based instrument track (e.g. piano) and depress OK , SaveAs button, Save and Yes. You now have XF chords in your midi.

Regards,

Michael

hey michael, do you happen to know how you do the same thing with the roland e-series? the manual says it does, but in song play the chards get a bit "confused"...it seems to work okay in the score mode though..
thanks if you can help, and thanks if you can't
cheers

Regarding PSRUTI:
Thanks for your advice but PSRUTI doesn't work for this particular purpose.
Did you try it?
I admit that it's possible that I am missing something here. But I followed your instructions and when I load the midi files converted into the XG format by PSRUTI, I don't see any changes.

Thanks anyways for your suggestion and attention.

I am not sure where you went wrong. I do it all the time with files I get from the net when I want to learn the song.

I start PSRUTI, Open a midi file, click Compute Chords, check a chord based instrument track (e.g. piano) and depress OK , SaveAs button, Save and Yes. You now have XF chords in your midi.

You can print these out in PSRUIT or lookd at them on the screen, or they will display on your main screen as you play the midi.

If you have a file that does not seem to work, send it to me at mpb@sover.net and I will take a look.

Regards,

Michael

GNMIDI software will do this [and much more]..If your keyboard has a lyric read feature ..Use GNMIDI..
