Three questions:

How much hiss do you hear from the L1 when it is idle with the gain half way up? I heard hiss when I listend to the L1 idle at GC.

During breaks at small gigs I want to plug my portable Sony Discman CD player directly into the L1 mixer. The Disman only has a stereo mini jack headphone out. Since the L1 is mono, will I have phase problems plugging both the right and left channel of the CD player into two chanels of the L1 mixer? Lee mentioned that phasing from a stereo source would be a problem. And I don't have a way to sum my portable CD player at gigs, do I, unless I bring a seperate mixer? That would be a hassle.

I see two 6.5" speakers in the sub-woofer unit, or is it just one speker with a same size port hole next to it?

The woofer has 2 speakers in it.
There is almost NO hiss when idle. Make sure the input gain is set correctly. Read the book.
You can buy a stereo to mono cable that will simlify your life with the CD player. I recommend using one channel. Sum it B4 it gets to the mixer. That way you have one volume control and 3 band EQ to work with.

Dave,

It hissed even when there was nothing plugged into it and the Channel 1 gain was set at 10am and Channel 2 gain at zero.

I have been told using a stereo to mono Y cable can eventualy damage the output of my CD player.

Larry raised an intersing point, I think he is right, that the L/R sum output jack of the Yamaha digital pianos does not sound as good as running both the L and R out. It's a pity the Bose L1 cannot sum stereo inputs without phase problems.
