mike, if your using Fix It Utilities from Mejenix (who was bought out by another company, who was bought out by yet another company) do yourself a favor and get rid of it ASAP!! It is one of THE worst PC Utilities EVER!!! That is probably the reason you're having soooo much problem with your Computer, not because of your computer being an AMD with Windows XP, etc., but because your choice of PC Utility software.

Also, why can't you do a System Restore? You DO NOT need the XP disk to do a System Restore. Also mike, you say you now live in Spain right? Magdala or some other city should have Windows XP for sale somewhere. You would be doing yourself a favor if you purchased the XP Disk. PS: If you do, make sure it is the same one that you have running on your computer now, ie., Home Edition or Professional Edition. Get the same one that's running on your computer.

Best regards,
Mike

PS: Also you may want to "Defrag" the Hard Drive mike. Sometimes that will clear up problems you may be experiencing on your PC.

mike thanks for your reply,i do defrag regularly, malaga is the city,i,m glad you told me about fix it,the trouble is when you buy systems, because we don,t know a lot we rely on other people for advice ,it,s not until we talk to friends who advise us better then do we realise what is and what is not good, the system restore has been giving me problems these past few days,i downloaded microsoft power point program, which came with the san antonio patterns and it said i had to load my original disc(which i don,t have)looking back i see what you mean about fixit, because if fix wizard sends files to the rubbish bin, then obviosly some of them could be important, mike i appreciate your help i,ll see how i get on about a new disc, also is the defrag scandisc etc.that is on the system better?mike

Scandisk = "Check Disk" in Windows XP is very good as it is Microsoft's Native disk checking utility - (it should be good because Microsoft should know by now how to integrate and optimize an error checking utility into their "own" OS.)

Disk Defragmenter = "Defrag" utility is very good also. Be careful NOT to Defragment your Hard Drive too often as it can also cause complications if you do. In other words there should be NO need to Defragment your Hard Drive if it is LESS than 10% Fragmented. (If you run Windows XP Defragmenter just use the "Analyze" feature first and Defrag will tell you beforehand if your Hard Drive needs Defraging. If it does, Defrag it. If it doesn't then there is no need to Defrag it basically. PS: If you do Audio Recording on your PC with Multi-track software you should try to use a separate Hard Drive for your Music Recording and the other Hard Drive for everything else. If you find an 'unusual' slowdown in the performance of your PC Defraging the Hard Drive would be a good idea regardless. Sometimes other problems will slow down your PC though, NOT just because it has a moderately fragmented Hard Drive.

Best regards,
Mike
