There have been discussions about how Wersi instruments work in the Mediastation Review thread, however as Wersi is OT I have started this new thread so that they can be kept separate.

Hello Lionstracs
Basic Installation, which is all done in the factory, but can be done onsite in the unlikely event of a failure of the instrument.
The software used is Windows XP Home, which has been set up by the Wersi engineers to give optimum performance as a music computer, also loaded are Cubase, Wavlab, Adobe etc, and also the drivers for all the cards and screen.
An image disc was then made, and it is this image disc that is loaded into each instrument when they have been assembled. (This saves considerable time as all settings and programs are loaded straight in)
When the above is completed the OAS software is loaded in, and after testing the instrument is ready to be shipped.

Disc Streaming
From OAS 4 Giga sampler software could be loaded onto the OAS instruments, however it was only installed as standard on the Giga Piano (Hence the name) and which used a version of The Grand Giga Piano from Steinberg. (Which was one of the first to use Disk Streaming?)
If you load in Kontakt 2 this has its own Disk Streaming software, thus allowing large samples to be directly streamed from the Hard Disk. (In this respect it is no difference to loading it onto a normal computer)
When you load the VST into the OAS 7 VST Host then all the facilities of the VST become available, which means you then load in what voices you require and save the mapping in the VST instrument.
To select the sound you can use Quickload or the OAS Database.
Quickload (Accessed from the main screen)

1. Press the Quickload button and choose what you want to load. (In our case sounds)
2. From the menu items choose where you want to load the sound from. (In our case the plug-in where the VST Instrument has been loaded)
3. Select the voice you require and press load, and the voice is ready to play. (This can be stored in a Preset if required)
When you press Quickload the voice will be loaded to whatever is selected at the time. (IE. If Left Hand Layer 2 is selected the this is where the voice goes)

OAS Database. (Accessed from the Settings screen)

1. Choose the OAS Sound Manager
2. Choose the sound you wish to use
3. Map the sound to one of the free sound buttons, and then press save.
The voice is then available to use exactly the same as any other voice, which means selection is the same as any other voice.
In OAS once the voice is mapped, where the voice comes from has no relevance. (IE. You don’t have to keep going into the VST Instrument to select the sound)

I hope the above has been informative for all those reading

Bill

Not a single demo on the US site. No mp3s, no video. One service center for the entire continent. No listing of dealers (if there are any) on the site.

For the price these instruments cost, you'd think a decent website was affordable....

I'm not on a crusade against these arrangers, but Jeez, guys, what are we supposed to make of that amateurish website? Somehow, Wersi have the bucks for OAS upgrades every few years, but can't spare any for advertising and marketing....

From the profit margin of the sale of ONE Wersi, you could afford a decent website......

Organ sales aren't what they used to be and Mr Conti is the only wersi Distributor that I know of in the US and he is a Gentleman. He certainly could do a lot better on the web site no questions asked. I visited his place many years ago and it was a first class place.

I spoke with Mr. Conti a while back and he is still activly selling Wersi but not in the grand manner he used to. He gave up the showroom.

Is there a place for Wersi, I certainly think so but not in the huge numbers of its past years. It is a specialty product and I beleive it has a whole lot to offer.

The profits are large but they don't roll in daily or weekly like they used to. With most high priced specialty products a big margin is nessessary to make a living.

Just my 2 Cents worth.

He really should have a little better web site though. LOL

His old site looked a lot better.

Hello All
You may have seen my post about the New Open Art Arranger Software (A few weeks ago) that Wersi will be introducing from December; one of the features is the ability to play Yamaha Styles Directly Without Conversion.
There are some pictures and a short demo of the new Open Art Arranger on the Wersi Austria site. (Presumably the prototype as it is not due for release until next month)
For those that do not understand German, the rough translation is, all the pictures are of the screen itself taken with a camera. (Hence the reflections)
The sound demo consists of Yamaha Styles which have been loaded in and played directly one after the other. (No Editing) The MP3 file has only been recorded at 96Kbs, so you do tend to get some compression effects, (Hopefully when the final version is released we will have better quality sound samples) but it should give you an idea of what to expect.
Enjoy

Bill
