I would like to know what everyone is using as your PA for a solo or duo gig, and if small speakers have the punch to do a good job?

Search several pages on this forum, you will find a lot.

In the past year, Logitech z2200 computer speaker system found converts. Then, it was the z5500 system. Then, Bose PAS. Barbetta systems also, before that. Then, there's traditional systems. Snoop around and hang around and you will get a feel.

I use Logitech z2200 at this time. Had a Carvin 12-channel mixer with two 15" speakers and two spot monitors system. Sold it.

Most of the time I use two Barbetta Sona 31Cs. Wonderful sound, light weight, plenty of power. I previously had two Barbetta Sona 32cs and traded them to Hank B for the 31s, mainly because they are a little smaller in size.
Both sets are great.
I also have a couple of Logitech Z2200s, but don't use them much anymore unless I have dual jobs and don't have time to move.
Last night I did both a wedding and receptions. At the wedding there was a couple that sang a song. They had brought their newly-acquired Bose PAS with two subs.
(Well, yes that was overkill for doing one song at a church!)
Anyway, I ran my laptop through the Bose and it sounded great. It didn't exactly blow me away as I expected, but when I asked the guy which preset he was using, he said none, that he had everything flat, so I suppose he didn't know anything about tweaking it.

For most jobs I use the Bose PAS (tweaked to preset #57) and it does a fantastic job. For some smaller jobs, audiences to 125, I'm using the Logitech Z-5500 system and is outstanding.

Cheers,

Gary

Hi, I use a Crate TV 100, a PA system that contains in a luggage like, 2 active 2 way speakers, a 8 channel stereo mixer with digital FX, micro, mixer & speakers stands GREAT sound STEREO for around $500.00, I also added a subwoofer M-audio(100 Watts) that I had, for small to medium jobs (up to 300)is great!.I play in "Tea dances" in the Phoenix Area, I also have a Roland CM 300)powered mixer that I use with 2 Yamaha 2 way Speakers (15 inch and a tweeter), and in fact, yesterday, I use both systems....and sounded great!! with my PSR3000 and my Korg PA60.

Logitech 2200 if I can get away with it. I have converted the satellite speakers so they affix to the Tyros for gigging (so no stands required) using the quick release speaker adaptor fittings made especially for the Tyros but seemingly only available in Germany.

If I need more volume then its 4 x Carlsborough 12" cabinets with horns and two seperate 150watt amps (Merlin and Stingray).

This setup is pretty old and feels like its made out of solid concrete. It's probably time for something like the Bose PAS but I'm such a meanie when it comes to spending dosh for gigging.

Regards - KFingers

*Small jobs....Carvin green self contained
three channel 100 watt...12" with piezo, with two effects loops (100 and under people).

* Medium jobs (up to 200 people)..17 lb 200 watt Carvin head, two 12" with horns Carvin speakers, 1 0r 2 powered Hotspot monitors.

* Larger jobs...2 1000 watt Crowns, 4 JBL 15's, 2 18" subs, 2 15" powered monitors
(we use a sound man and crew for this..thankfully, only 6 times a year or so).

Lots of other miscellaneous cabinets and heads for back-up and two set-ups at the same time.

For my solo work I use my trusty Roland Cube 100 keyboard amps in stereo, with an Alesis Multimix 6 FX mixer..

With my band "Just in Time", I use Yorkville NX550P's Powered 2 way[550 watts each]12's with horns, and a Yorkville 700 watt Subwoofer....controlled with a Mackie CFX12 mixer..

I use JBL EON 15s with a Yamaha Pro-Mix01 which covers most eventualities.
