I have two Mackie mixers. One 20 channel for my band, where I use my Mackie powered 450's, and one 12 channel mixer, where I am looking to buy smaller light weight speakers.

Are any of these speakers that you guys are using powered? To the best of my knowledge, Bose does not make powered speakers.

I use 2 JBL EONS and a Yamaha 640 six channel powered mixer. For smaller jobs, I just use 1 speaker. I can be set up in 10 to 15 minutes which is helpful, since I sometimes have back to back jobs. I can be out of smaller jobs and in my car and rolling 15 minutes after the job ends. It sounds great so I probably won't be upgrading for awhile. I must confess, the Bose PAS does interest me. Oh well, Later.

Mackie 808S power mixer (600x2 watts) stereo with a matched pair of Mackie C300 12" 2-ways and an EV Sxb120 12" 300 watt sub. Works for me - just four easy pieces to transport and I can entertain 50 - 500 with no problem. Also, 2 Sound Technology 12" wedge monitors and a spare Crate 10." I also have a Peavey KBa50 with an XLR input I can use for smaller venues.

I saw a friend's reggae band over the weekend that was using a Bose PAS with 2 Bose sub woofers. I was very impressed. The band has a drummer, bass player, electric guitar and keyboards and the vocals and acoustic guitar were easily heard over the rhythm section. And apart from being audible I must add that they sounded very good.

While I have read many good reports about the PAS here on the forum I was a little sceptical about how well they would work with a live band. The Bose PAS sounded very natural and I was sitting well off to the opposite side, well away from the speakers and that didn't even matter.

My friend John who sings and plays guitar in the band makes guitar hangers http://wallacher.com/ and has designed one specially for connecting to the back of the Bose PAS so those musicians using guitars can hang them on the back of the speaker pole when they aren't in use. He hasn't released it yet but will be showing it at NAMM later in the month. I know UD uses guitar with a Bose PAS so this may appeal to him.

Since getting the Bose PAS with 1 sub about 8 months ago, it is all I have used. I have waivered back and forth between presets 55 and 57.

I use the Bose PAS exclusively. Preset #57. Great sound.

Yamaha EMX5000 powered mixer (2 x 500w RMS stereo)into 2 x Yamaha Club IV Speakers (15" + Horn), as well as Crown XLS602 power amp. driving 2 old JBLs (15" + Horn) fed from the Mono out for reinforced bottom end. Plenty of volume for large venues, good sound & all on castors for mobility. Works for us at this point in time. Always looking for better sounding, smaller & lighter gear.

I've noticed that very few "zoners" use Yamaha Powered Mixers / Speakers & have often wondered if there is a reason/s for this ?

Alan,

I still use a Yamaha powered mixer, the 640, and JBL Eon speakers. This works fine for me. On smaller gigs I just carry in 1 speaker. I'm set up in a matter of minutes and teardown goes even quicker. I get a nice full bodied sound and I can play as soft or as loud as is called for. The Bose PAS does interest me. I have some Bose home products and the sound quality is impeccable.

Since you live in Australia, do you know Stefan? His website has intrigued me.

Salud,

Joe
