I'd like to know if people use the sustain pedal. I play a little piano and use the sustain pedal reasonably correctly, i think. But since I started playing keyboard, it seems kind of useless to me. First of all, I had to turn on Panel Sustain just to get notes to have enough sustain for me normally, then I hold down notes or chords to get a little more sustain. Just wondering.

I've never taken piano lessons, so not sure when to use it when playing in piano mode. I've read that you should hold it down till the next chord change.
I use the sustain pedal to turn on the leslie sim. when using organ voices.

I would guess that then, technically speaking, you're not using it as a sustain pedal, but rather a trigger to fire the Leslies...

I, like many others, would be lost without the sustain pedal. When used tasefully, it adds depth and warmth to whatever I'm playing. Also, it can greatly expand the output or total sound coming from the keyboard.

As a pianist who plays keyboard the sustain pedal is invaluable.

Sounds to me like you've need to get used to the different characteristics of a keyboard, and adjust your playing / stomping technique to suit.

I remember well my first meeting with a keyboard; I hated it and sounded rubbish. These days I hope I sound better!

Sustain pedal is used many ways on any keyboard. Examples include

A. tonality/color
1. a line with sustain is very different then without
2. adding roundness to a hard strike

B. connecting a line of chords:
1. hold down keys
2. press down sustain
3. release keys
4. press next keys and immediately release sustain

The timing of the release of sustain takes practice. The net result is a line of chords without any break of sound in-between chords and without sustaining notes beyond each chord.

C. Technical trickery on electronic keyboards: Using sustain to hold down a note(s) while changing settings.
